Knoxville is home to many amazing restaurants and it actually once held the award for most restaurants per capita. So it is safe to say that Knoxville has a good amount of dining options. However, it can be hard to choose which places are truly worth going too. A friendly atmosphere, delicious food, and great service are all crucial things when eating out.

Growing up in Knoxville and being the foodie that I am, I have tried many different restaurants in this city, specifically brunch restaurants. I love brunch and the restaurants below are four of my absolute favorite places to get brunch at. Each one embodies the characteristics I look for when eating out, from the ambiance to the delightful and tasty food!

So next time you are struggling to decide on where to brunch, try checking out one of these spots and you will not be disappointed.

1. Wild Love Bakehouse

Starting at the top of the list is the one and only, Wild Love Bakehouse. This is the ultimate brunch spot for coffee and cafe lovers. The menu ranges from local coffee drinks, delicious homemade pastries, and even flatbread pizza. This little bakery takes pride in using all locally sourced and organic ingredients. The vibe and aesthetics are equally as pleasing as the food. It’s a great space to hang out with friends, get some homework done, or even just relax with a good book. Many people claim that this might be the best bakery in the United States, right here in our city, so with all that being said everyone needs to add this to their brunch list.

2. The Juice Box

Smoothie bowls have exploded during the 21st century and it seems as though everyone can’t get enough of these delicious and healthy bowls. Well it’s no shocker that Knoxville has it’s very own smoothie bowl shop and it is definitely worth trying. The Juice Box has a carefree relaxed vibe and its the perfect place to get some studying done. Known for their delicious and Instagram worthy smoothie bowls and not only do they have smoothie bowls, but they also have delicious local coffee, smoothies, juices, and CREPES!

3. Olibea

Olibea is one of those hidden gems located in The Old City. They take pride in their “simple food” made with fresh and local ingredients. Their menu is very short because they try to use mostly seasonal ingredients. It’s a little hole in the wall filled with local artists paintings on the wall and smells like delicious coffee. From Olibea Pancakes made with lemon & cruse farm buttermilk to the Tennessee Benedict served with eggs, potatoes, and homemade hollandaise sauce this place has a menu that will make your mouth water. To put it simply this place is utterly delicious and worth getting out of bed for.

4. The French Market

France is known for its amazing cuisine and Knoxville has its very own piece of France located downtown. The French Market is a quaint cozy crêperie. Known for their authentic crepes and coffee imported from France this place is the real deal. From sweet strawberries & creme crepes to turkey & brie cheese, whether you want something sweet or savory their menu will have it. With an endless amount of crepe options to mix & match you will definitely have to go back more than once.

Go ahead and add these places to your must-brunch list, and happy brunching, Knoxville!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
