To My Brother's Girlfriend

I don’t even know where to start with you. You’ve only been in my life for an extremely short time, and I feel as if I have known you for my entire life. I know this is extremely cliché, but I want you to know that I’m always thinking of you and how much happiness you’ve brought not only to my brother’s life, but to my life.

Your job as the significant other is to make my brother happy, and you could have easily stopped there. Instead, you’ve become my favorite member of the family (sorry, mom and dad!) You don’t have to ask how school is going or have an interest in my life. You don’t need to know anything about me. The fact that you go out of your way to be my friend and take a genuine interest in my life is what ranks you above everyone else.

I can go to you for anything. I know I could call you up at 3 in the morning with a stupid problem, and you would be happy to help me out. I can call with girl drama or just to catch up. Sometimes, I’d prefer to talk to you over my brother because it’s nice to have a sister figure in these types of situations that knows what a girl would do.

You’re basically already my sibling, so I can go weeks without talking to you and know you still genuinely care about me. Nothing makes me happier than when you tag me in a Facebook video because it’s so reassuring to know that you were thinking of me randomly throughout your day.

Now, my biggest job as the sister is to make sure my brother is happy. He always comes first, and hearing him talk about how happy you make him makes my heart hurt in the most positive way. You have brought him so much happiness, and I want nothing more than for him to be happy. You have gone above and beyond, and you two are honestly #RelationshipGoals.

I want you to know that I will always be on your side. You have given me your all, and I will gladly return the favor. I’ll be here for moral support, a good laugh, and just to be a friend. I want you to know you’ll always have a little sister if you need someone to go get your nails done with or if you just need a shotgun rider while you run some errands. I'll be there for you.

Don’t worry, if you just want to have a date night with my brother, you can. I just wanted to let you know I appreciate you and thoroughly enjoy hanging out with you. It's been great getting to know you, and I can't wait to see what other adventures we'll have together. All I can say to you is thank you for coming into my life and being there for not only my brother but for me. Thank you for gracing my life with your kindness and generosity. Thank you for learning to live with the entire family and not just my brother. Thank you for existing. You mean so much to me, and I hope I remain a huge part of your life as well.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up?
