Several years ago I wrote songs for Christ for a talent show at church camp.

One of the songs that was written was the Song: You are My Brother and it represents how others are your brothers and sisters in Christ. After writing this particular song it became a favorite among friends and the significance it made to them in their everyday lives. Once after that talent show I sang it once more at another church camp and received the same response.

It shows us how we are connected through the body of Christ and the family that we need to be for each other. The first line of the song goes: You are my brother it is hard to explain, you are the one that I love. The explanation represents how Jesus is our brother and we are all his brothers and sisters through him and yes it is hard to explain to others that we are family in a way that many may not quite comprehend the back-story to the song which many people do not truly know the reason why that particular song was written in the context it was.

A few years have past since that song came up until one particular college age retreat at the same church-camp that the song was originally sang for others during talent night several years earlier. During that college retreat several of us had an opportunity to meet a person: named Jacque with such a caring heart and as we learned about that particular individual that we were spending the entire weekend with at this particular retreat, the gentleness of the his heart showed how much he truly cares for God and also served as a reminder of what the song's deeper meaning was truly and that is it doesn't matter what we may look like on the outside or the challenges that we face in our everyday lives; that many of us are truly brothers and sisters. Conceptually the value of it is hard to explain because the family unit seems to be fading away; however Jacque reminded us of that song that was written several years prior was ever present and the value of his caring heart and the energy He had for God was a wake-up call for many of us who do not take the time to realize the significance of being brothers and sisters with individuals that you may have just met on one particular weekend; who you could just tell that his desire was to serve God to the best of his abilities; and let others know that we are a family unit that should not be broken, for we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and throughout that particular weekend the feeling of just an escape changed instantly.

It then became a friendship with a result of being truly reminded of the message of the song: You are My Brother that was written several years prior but it served as a wake-up call to listen to their story and realize the true beauty of being a true brother or sister in Christ who will take the time to just spend some time with those individuals and know that they truly are family and this family bond should not be broken apart, for as the song goes: You are my brother it is hard to explain you are the one that I love. That simple reminder should be there in our everyday lives as Christians for we are to be that brother or sister and be there to encourage one another by learning the inside story to truly understand what it takes to be that brother or sister in Christ that we are called to be.

Are you being a brother or sister in Christ to others? A-men.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
