To My Brother Now That He's Home

You have your life more figured out than I did at your age.

Hi buddy,

You've been gone for the last five and a half months and now you are home. I have never been more proud of you. I have never wanted to hear about your experiences more than I want to now. You have grown a lot in the last five and a half months. You have become stronger physically and mentally. You have a lot going for you now.

You are leaving again soon and you will be gone for five months this time. You have your life more together now than I had my life together at your age. You are young and you are figuring your life out so quickly now. Sure you have a few things left to figure out but you seem to have a plan and you seem to know what you want to do in your life.

You are young and you know that you want to go into the military and I have never been more proud of you. I have never been more proud to call you my little brother. But what happened to my baby brother? What happened to the little kid that I curled up on the couch with on Sunday's and watched movies with?

I want you to know that as you go forward with the rest of your life that I am always going to be proud of you. I am always going to be proud to call you my little brother, but you will always to me be just that my little brother.

Even though you are growing up and you will soon be an adult you aren't going to be an adult in my eyes, you are always going to be that little kid that I watched movies with on Sunday's.

Buddy, you are continuing to grow as a person and I support you and what you decide to do with your future. I love you and I will always be your supportive big sister. But remember that family is forever and I need you to continue to communicate with me and tell me what is happening in your life the good the bad and the ugly.

Love always,

Your proud big sister.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
