My Little Brother Forever Changed My Heart

My little brother is the reason I am the person that I am today.

How fascinating that a little human being can have such a tremendous impact on yourself? My whole life was completely changed when my little brother came into this world 11 years ago. Who would of thought that this little piece of life made out of clusters of the stars above who also shared the same blood as me, would of completely altered my entire perspective on life. Having a little brother and helping raise him is one of the most rewarding experiences that have made me into a better person. I take care of him as if he was my own child and he never fails to make me smile. It is truly a blessing to have watched him grow up to be the spontaneous and goofy kid that he is.

As a college student, I am always stressed out and don't always have the chance to to go out and enjoy myself thanks to my big pile of homework that never seems to go down. I am also dealing with some other personal issues where anxiety gets the best of me. It gets to a point that even faking you are okay is way too exhausting. But whenever I see my little brother, whenever I hear his loud and uncontrollable laughter, I can truly say that I am 100 percent happy. All of my problems seem to evaporate and I forget all of my troubles that follow me around on a daily basis. He is so filled with life and his presence radiates a sense of fun and love for him on all those who encounter him. He has this power over you where he will melt your heart without even knowing.

Without even realizing it, he has made me into the person I am today. How he sees the world inspires me to be just like him. Not putting so much thought in how others perceive myself, but instead focusing on the things that make me happy. My little brother is always up to something, whether it is riding bikes outside or defending the good citizens of his make believe city with his action figures. There is never an end to having fun. Watching him grow up has made me become more aware of what and where he learns things. I make the cautious effort to teach him important life lessons and values that I believe will help him grow up to be the man I know my parents will be proud of. I will be completely satisfied if he becomes the most caring, accepting, and strongest person to be able to go after his dreams and I know he will not disappoint. I hope to be the best role model and when he grows up, he can say that his sister was always there for him and inspired him to be the great person that he is. I don't always have a good day. There are days where I don't even want to wake up in the morning knowing the long day ahead of me. But once I see him in the morning before I leave for school, he is my ultimate motivation to take on the day. That smile just never fails to brighten my day. It is the constant reminder of all the things I do for him.

No matter what happens, I will always be there for my little brother. I don't know what I would without him, but I don't like to think about it. You will never see us having a dull moment and the best part is that I get to be his big sister for the rest of my life. I have no idea where life will take him, but I sure hope he makes the best out if it. Knowing him, I think there is no doubt that he will do just that. Efren, I am eternally grateful for making my life filled with so much more joy and for that I say thank you.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
