This is an open letter to the best friend that I have known for almost two years and who is about to start his Disney college program.

Dear brother,

We have been best friends for almost two years and we have had many fun memories together ever since we first met. You just came to my university when you were a transfer student and I was just beginning my sophomore year at the school. We met on the first day of band class and it was either I came up to you, introduced myself and began talking to you or it was the other way around. After that day, our friendship just began to grow more and more to the point where we started to be in more of a brother-sister relationship.

We have had many fun hangouts with all of our other friends as well as with each other. Each time we did hang out, we learned a bit more about each other to the point where we just knew pretty much everything about each other. I just feel like the times that we did hang out were full of laughs and great memories that I will never forget. I am definitely going to miss all of the hangouts so much that I am going to be counting down the months until it's the day where you come back to the university for the fall semester.

I am going to miss the fact that I can't knock on your door and ask you if you want to study for the next music history test together. I am going to miss seeing your smiling face in band class, in the dining hall, and in other popular places on campus. However, this doesn't mean that I won't be able to talk to you whenever I want to, right? You know that I will be messaging you, sending you snapchats, and just trying to keep in contact with you as much as I can while you're away.

Now, it's time for you to go down to the happiest place on earth so you can discover what you really want to do with your life. I am so proud that you are taking on this brand new adventure and I hope that you post pictures on Facebook. Not only so I can be jealous of what you're up to down there, but also to see what exactly you are doing.

Anyways, I should get back to living my life and doing the best that I can at the university and I look forward to the next message that you choose to send me. I want to wish you the best of luck in all that you do and I will be praying for you that everything works out well. Remember, you're always welcome to shoot me a text or give me a call if you want to tell me how things are going or if you need some advice on anything that's troubling you. Finally, "anything can happen if you let it." (You should always remember that since you were in the musical that this quote is from).

Your sister from another mister,

J.B.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
