I've been living in Florida for over a year now after living in Brooklyn for my entire teenagehood, and it's been quite the ride. More recently, over the summer, I got to visit again, but nothing beats the winters in Brooklyn. And since I won't be getting much of a winter here in Florida, I thought I'd sentimentally reminisce on the winters in Brooklyn.
For one, Brooklyn's hot chocolate is un-beatable. I don't care what anyone says, the best hot chocolate is in Brooklyn, and on a cold winter morning while walking to school, that beverage is a necessity.
Another thing I miss that I really didn't think I'd miss is the feeling of coming home to a nice, warm, and cozy 750 square foot apartment after walking in the freezing cold or shoveling the sidewalk. Then, proceeding to run my ice cold hands under some water that took just a little too long to heat up.
How it was almost too exciting to see whether or not your school was going to close for the next big snow storm. Watching the news, and waiting by the phone to see if you were going to get a day to sled with friends or have snowball fights was almost a hobby the day before a big snow storm.
And who could ever forget the smell of Christmas trees every couple of blocks? That smell along with getting everyone in the holiday spirit.
Best of all, though, what was always so beautiful to me was waking up the day after a snowstorm and going outside when there's barely anyone outside. When there isn't a sound or anyone. Just the freezing cold stinging your face, and fresh snow to walk through.
Brooklyn is cozy and has a charm to it that I'll never forget. It's a place where everyone is accepted. Even in the coldest of days, it will always have a warm place in my heart. Here's to you beautiful Brooklyn.
