12 Reasons Everyone Should 100 Percent Watch 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'

In This Article:

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is a great comedy with its next season premiering on NBC instead of Fox.

Shortly after getting canceled by Fox, NBC swooped in and picked up the show, knowing that there was more story left to tell and more laughs to hand out. Clearly, if the show's cancelation caused so much uproar on social media, then there has to be something great about it to watch, right? The answer is yes. I started and finished "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" shortly after all of this went down, and it did not disappoint.

I honestly don't know why it took me that long to watch the show in the first place. Here's why everyone needs to watch "Brooklyn Nine-Nine":

1. Jake Peralta

Jake Peralta played by Andy Samberg is the best detective of the 99th Precinct and one of the most relatable adults on TV right now. He doesn't really know anything about being an adult from taking care of himself, to being in "crippling" debt (catch me in the same position in a few years, thank you UVA). The worst may be thinking he could rock some frosted tips. Although, the one thing he is sure about is how much he loves Amy Santiago and being a detective for New York City.

2. Captain Holt's emotionless face

Captain Raymond Holt played by Andre Braugher is an openly gay police captain for the 99th Precinct, and he loves his job. When he first comes on the show he is put off as a stone cold, emotionless man. Yet, it is revealed throughout the series that Captain Holt has a jokester side to match his serious side. One of my favorite jokes on the show is when Captain Holt, thinks he is showing how happy or upset he is, yet he has not a look of emotion on his face, and no one ever knows why he thinks he shows so much emotion.

3. Halloween Heist

This is by far one of the best running gags I have ever seen on a show. It's is so simple, yet it gets better and better. Every season of the show has a Halloween episode where the detectives try to steal a designated item and hold on to it until the end of the night. It all started with Jake betting Captain Holt he could steal his Medal of Valor without him noticing. This has become a staple of the show in every season, with a slight twist to change it up each time. Watch Season 5, Episode 4 for a special twist on the Halloween heist!

4. Jake and Charles' friendship

Jake and Charles are one of the best friendships I have ever seen. Most of the time you would think there is an equality between friends, but that is not the case with these two. Charles' believes Jake is the man, the best man in the world, and he tells him all the time. Jake accepts this pedestal because he also believes that he is great. Although, when it comes down to it Jake knows he could not make it without Charles. They really are best friends.

5. Charles Boyle's unique vocabulary

Charles Boyle, played by Joe Lo Truglio, has his own special way of expressing himself. Many times when he speaks he really does mean well, but it is often very out of context and is not appropriate for the situation at hand. What makes it funny is that Charles does not at all see the problem with what he is saying and completely brushes it off. This is a large part of why Jake is always making up fun names for their adventures as best friends.

6. Gina Linetti

Gina Linetti, played by Chelsea Peretti, is truly a character. She is feisty, and the opposite of outspoken. She does not care who she is talking to, but she will tell you exactly how it is and what she thinks of you. Gina puts it off that she does not care about anything, or anyone really, but when it comes down to it she always goes out of her way to help her friends. With her sassy remarks and her dance moves, Gina Linetti is in a league of her own.

7. Terry talking in third person

The big and lovable Terry Crews does an amazing job of playing Terry Jeffords on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." He's funny, strong, and always looking out for his detectives. Although, above all else, he loves talking about himself in the third person. I can guarantee that you will hear him say "Terry loves..." or "Terry..." several times an episode, and it will be funny every. single. time.

8. Rosa Diaz

Rosa Diaz, played by Stephanie Beatriz, is known as the toughest detective of the 99th Precinct. She has a really tough exterior, but as the series goes on you get to see that she is not all rough and tough. She is really close to Charles after he chased after her for years. Throughout the series, you will see Rosa open up the most with Jake and Charles. Although, you will also catch them being possibly the most scared of her because it is known that Rosa is tougher than all of them in the precinct. She is also the one they know the least about, she literally moved after Amy went to her apartment ONCE.

9. Hitchcock and Scully

The dynamic duo of Hitchcock and Scully, played by Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller (respectively), are the oldest detectives of the 99th Precinct, and the least useful. They are known for only doing paperwork, eating, nothing at all or napping in their special nap room. Although, these two will surprise you with really random times that they are actually helpful to the rest of the squad. These two are the two to watch for a really good laugh throughout the series.

10. Doug Judy

This would have to be my second favorite running gag on the show. Doug Judy, played by Craig Robinson, is a "criminal" on the show and in a weird way one of Jake's best friends. He first came on the show as Jake's arch nemesis when his identity was unknown and they only knew him as "The Pontiac Bandit." Then, somehow everytime Jake finally catches Doug Judy, and is so close to taking him in, something goes wrong and Doug Judy escapes once again. Jake and Doug Judy's friendship(?) is definitely one of my favorites to see play out on the show.

11. Jake and Amy's relationship

You know how in almost every TV show you can tell who the main final couple is going to be? Well from the first episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" I knew these two were going to end up together, and boy am I glad it worked out. Even though everyone can tell this was going to be THE couple, I really like that they don't put all of the focus on their relationship. Of course, there are episodes where their relationship is at the forefront, but everything about the show does not center around these two getting together. Unlike most TV shows, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" does not have these two go through hard times and make everyone think that their relationship is in danger, from the moment they start dating, there is no fear of them breaking up. They know that they can work through anything.

12. It has the best episode opening I have ever seen

Honestly, if this clip doesn't make you want to watch "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" then I don't know what will.

Now, what are you waiting for? Get to Hulu right now and start watching, before the next season starts airing! You won't regret it!

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
