I am a new fan of The Voice. I think the whole idea of the coaches not seeing the faces and bodies and ages, etc. of the performers until they really hear the person’s voice is wonderful. One of my favorite contestants this year was Brook Simpson. Don’t get me wrong, the whole Top 12 was amazing, but there was something about Brooke that just seemed to stand out.
First, something amazing about her was that she was part of making “herstory.” Miley was the first coach to have an all-female team. Brooke was one of these wonderful women. Look up the hashtag #herstory and Miley and Brooke will definitely come up. We need young, talented women like Brooke to look up to making herstory.
Second, she is a normal person. Her Instagram stories are filled with weird faces, voices and her just talking as if we are all friends with her. She even refers to herself as a chicken nugget. C’mon people. How many uptight, famous singers will call themselves chicken nuggets? None of them. But how many of you look at a picture of a chicken nugget and just say “me.” Probably at least half of you. It just shows how normal of a person Brooke is.
Finally, did you hear her final four original song?? Every final four performer gets a chance to record an original song and perform it for finale night. Two of the other finalists sang about heartbreak- super relatable and they sang their songs wonderfully. However, Brooke sang about something important. Something we NEED to hear. She sang her new song titled What Is Beautiful. She showed her voice by letting us all know that she doesn’t need us to tell her she is beautiful. She likes who she is, she likes how she looks, and if we have a problem with it well then oh well. Her message in this song is one that more and more people need to follow.
Brooke Simpson is just so important. She is a strong woman and she can help spread her message. The message of loving yourself, whoever that is. Embrace your personality. Embrace your body. Embrace your beauty. Thank you Brooke Simpson for a wonderful season of The Voice.
