There is a television show out there that is based off of the popular 1980’s line of toys of horses. The TV show is called "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic," and it began airing in 2010. The show was intended to be watched by little girls, but something very strange began to happen. Older men began to become attached to the show and the message that was shown: friendship is truly magic.

To explain how the brony fandom began to take its toll, we have to go back into the ancient times of October 2010. Someone wrote an article about the television show on a website called 4Chan and how the show was pretty much a sign of the company wanting people to buy more pony merchandise.

From that article, a chain reaction was formed of people starting to watch "My Little Pony" and saying that it was good, which caused them to make posts about it. The posts have reached up to new heights that the moderators of the website decided to shut it all down, but that never stopped the fandom from growing. The posts kept continuing and the fandom was truly started to form, but what is it about this show that makes older men attracted to it?

Some people say that it’s a good thing to watch to spread some positivity into the world that we live in. In our society, most things that are shown on television involve violence and sex; so, it pretty much covers all of the provocative and negative issues that are talked about.

In a show that spreads positive messages about friendship with magical horses, it gives a sense of hope to those who truly need it. The lessons that are to be learned from watching the episodes can just make a person smile and feel better about themselves and about the world around them.

Other people say that they can just relate to some of the characters that are being portrayed throughout "My Little Pony". There’s Twilight Sparkle, the smart one; Applejack, the honest one; Pinkie Pie, the funny one; Fluttershy, the shy one; Rainbow Dash, the brave one; and Rarity, the generous one.

It’s also not just the main characters the fans of "My Little Pony" can relate to, it might also be some of the background characters and the characters who aren’t even ponies. In each episode of the show, there seems to be a part of it, whether it would be a character or a lesson, that each irony can relate to in their own lives.

For those people who aren’t bronies, they must think that these older people who are fans of a show that’s about talking, magical ponies are weirdos. They may think that bronies are men who are considered to be pedophiles, stalkers, or people who don’t have any jobs.

Those people don’t really see some of the good things that the brony fandom can truly do. There are artists, musicians, merchandise creators and other people who choose to express themselves and being creative because "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" inspires them to do so.

There have even been a ton of friendships that have been made between fellow bronies and pegasisters. I remember attending a convention last summer and I was dressed up as Pinkie Pie, a main character from the show. Throughout the majority of the convention, I’ve had some people coming up to me and asking me for pictures.

There was also a photo shoot being held in a park that consisted a bunch of people dressed up as "My Little Pony" characters. It was truly such a great feeling to be surrounded by people who were truly intrigued and interested in the same thing I was truly involved in. That moment gave me a reminder that each person is truly unique, no matter what kinds of things they are really into. Whether it would be watching YouTubers, like Jamie Pine, or watching a cartoon, like "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", everyone has something they are really into.

The moral of the story is that the fandom of the show, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", is just like any other fandom that exists out there. It’s filled with people who share a love for something that truly gives them a reason to smile and be happy. People who are willing to make friends with those who share the same love for something as they do.

They aren’t afraid to be who they want to be and they don’t let anyone judge them for the type of person that they are. I am one of those people who belongs to the brony fandom and I am truly proud of it. I am not ashamed to show my interest in a show meant for little girls. Bronies are a community of people who are not afraid to admit to the world that they like ponies that teach people important lessons about friendship.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
