Tis the season because basketball is back. Hastings College Basketball to be exact. Both Bronco teams have new fresh talent and some old faces. Both basketball teams have started out the season strong and hungry.
For the Hastings College Women’s Basketball, the girls are ranked number 14th and have a record of 10-2. The Lady Broncos are young but an experienced team. With return Senior, Shanelle Farmer back on the court, the broncos have the leadership they needed back. Farmer blew out her knee last year as a junior. Now she gets to play her senior year and also alongside her sister, Freshman, Shandra Farmer.
The Broncos are now 4-1 in GPAC play as of December 3rd and ranked 3rd in the GPAC. Looking more in depth of the team, the broncos are skilled in defense by causing the opponents having more than 15 turnovers a game, and shooting 69 percent in games. Broncos are lead with two freshman point guards Emma Grenfell and Shandra Farmer with returner guards Sophomore, MacKenzie Willicott and Junior, Holly Hild. For Hastings bigs they have returners, Junior Jordan Johnson who is more of a shooting guard, Junior Rachel Jelden and Senior Shanelle Farmer.
The Broncos Men’s Basketball team is now 6-5 on the season since December 3rd. The men’s team was not ranked high in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the preseason polls. The guys took that to heart and now proving that they do not belong down in the lower ranks. Since December, they are 3-1 in conference play and ranked 3rd in the GPAC. The Broncos are lead by seniors; #11 Trey Moore, #13 Rich Williams, and #51 Esteban Lopez. Moore is leading the team in points by averaging 15.30 a game. In the last game against the Dordt Defenders, he tallied up 20 points.
The men’s basketball team is very talented. Other key contributors include: Junior, Connor Musiel; Freshman, Bart Hiscock; Junior, Jake Hansen; Junior, Drew Callaghan, and Junior, Kevin Harkins. Already this season, the Broncos have beaten the number four team and beat University Nebraska-Kearney (Division II) school.
Both Bronco teams are hungry. Do not sleep on the Broncos this year. They are leaving everything on the court every game.
