This past weekend, most of the southern United States was hit with a horrible heatwave. Everywhere you went felt like hell, and the air was so humid it was as if you could cut it with a knife. This kind of weather sucks, but at least most of us can escape into our wonderful air-conditioned homes… but what happens when your last line of defense dies? I wondered that as I sat there hearing the news from my dad.
1. Denial
Surely the AC didn't die. It was just overworked, it'll come back on in a minute after we let the machine rest for an hour or so…
2. Anger
Of all the days to have the air conditioning break, it had to be the hottest day of the year?! Seriously what gives? What did we do to deserve this punishment?
3. Bargaining
Look, I'll sleep in the basement. Please just let the basement stay somewhat cool. Please, I'm begging you. It's so hot outside the trees are crying. The squirrels are crying. I am crying… or am I sweating? I can't tell anymore.
4. Depression
It's so hot. When will this end? Why did our air conditioning die when we needed it the most? Why has it left us in our time of need?
5. Acceptance
Okay. The air conditioning is broken. There's no cool spot in the house. There's only one solution. Hide at grandma's until we get a new one.
