I'm by no means an "extreme couponer" but I do have a few favorite ways to save money.

Money is unfortunately one of the things that the world revolves around. Being a college student, I'm always trying to find ways to save some money. In fact, embarrassingly enough, my friends will text me when they save a bunch of money because they know I will be proud. I am by no means an "extreme couponer" but I like to do whatever I can to save a little extra money. Here are some of my favorite ways.

1. Cartwheel

This is an app that only works at Target but let's not lie, we all love Target. I'm sure we all know what it feels like to walk into Target needing one thing and walking out spending over $100 too. Cartwheel offers a wide variety of discounts and coupons. I've saved $250 using Cartwheel. I mainly try to buy something only if it's on sale or on Cartwheel.

2. RetailMeNot

This is an app that I actually accidentally discovered but I absolutely love it now. This app provides you with a vide variety of stores that have discounts and sales going on. They also have exclusive RetailMeNot discount codes for online and in-store shopping. They also have deals for restaurants.

3. Newspaper Coupons

I feel like nobody reads the newspaper anymore but there are always good coupons in the Sunday paper. The best part of the paper coupons is that you can generally stack them on top of a deal that the store is already having or with other mobile deals. One time, the lady in front of me had 45 coupons and she ended up saving over $150. Goals, am I right?

4. Manufacturer Coupons

These coupons take a little bit more searching to find but there are many good websites like KrazyCouponLady and even just searching for manufacturer coupons on google. You can find a coupon for just about anything you need.

5. Ibotta

This is a rebate app but I've gotten $25 back in rebates through this app. It's fairly simple; you scan the barcode and then take a picture of your receipt and then you get the money into a cash back section. Once you've saved enough, you are able to withdraw the money in many different forms (PayPal, giftcards, etc)

6. Apps that are specific to their store.

Places like Kohls, Target, Caribou and Starbucks all have an app specific to their products. They release special deals and almost all of them have a rewards program that allows you to even get things for free sometimes! Check to see if your favorite restaurant or store have an app and see what kind of exclusive deals they offer!

I hope that you find these apps useful and that you are able to save a few extra dollars! These are a few of my favorite ways to save money, what are yours?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
