Theatre kids don't get that many chances to fangirl over their celebrities. I mean, you say start gushing over Barrett Wilbert Weed's performance on Jimmy Fallon to one of your friends and they just turn up the volume on Drake's new album. To catch a glimpse of your favorites, you either have to get up at 6 AM to get in the line for rush tickets, or you drop $150 to spend only two hours seeing them in all their glory.
Then, Kimmy Schmidt comes along. And finally, theatre geeks could see the people they through elbows to get a picture with at the stage door over and over again. For however much Netflix costs nowadays.
Here are seven performances that made every theatre kid drop their phone while they were watching Kimmy Schmidt.
1. Daveed Diggs
Probably the most famous of the bunch, Tituss Burgess excluded of course. Hamilton brought so many new people into the Broadway-loving community. So this one goes out to all of you who love "theatre," aka Hamilton is the only show you can name besides Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera.
2. James Monroe Iglehart.
Tony-Award winning Genie. Who better to play Titus's archenemy?
3. Jefferson Mays
Winner of all the awards except the Tony for his performance in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. Best known for rocking any kind of hat, which is probably why he's sporting such a nice top hat here.
4. Nic Rouleau
I have been in love with Nic Rouleau since I was 14 years old. Sorry Andrew Rannells, but Nic will always be MY Elder Price. His smile could solve world hunger.
5. Derek Klena
You loved to hate him in Dogfight...but you just loved him in Wicked and Anastasia. You probably didn't even notice that one of Broadway's hottest "It Boys" was one of Kimmy Schmidt's hottest messes on the most recent season.
6. Bob Lenzi
This is a really obscure one, but I couldn't pass him by. Bob Lenzi was in the ensemble of Dogfight (swoon) and originated the role of Miles in the short-lived but STUNNING Tuck Everlasting. If you spend 5 minutes of your life on Tuck Everlasting, listen to "Time." Then you'll fall in love.
7. Drew Gehling
SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST. Drew Gehling is the zaddy of Broadway. And apparently, always typecast as the guy who cheats on his wife. Nerdy hot for the win.
