For as long as I can remember, I have been a lover of drugstore shampoos and conditioners.

My current hair care regime consists of a shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask.

OGX Hydrating + Tea tree Mint Shampoo

I have used this shampoo for the last two years. It smells minty fresh and makes my scalp tingle. The best thing about this shampoo is the price tag - it's about $5.

Not Your Mother's Way To Grow Long & Strong Conditioner

This conditioner isn't great, it smells kind of weird and left a weird film on my hair. I started mixing it with my hair mask and then stopped using it all together.

L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm

This was the product that inspired me to take the plunge into expensive hair care. I have a love-hate relationship with this hair mask. When I first started using this product, I loved it. My hair was so soft and I was getting compliments on my hair. As I started getting near the bottom of the container, my hair became so dry. My hair felt gross! The frizz was worse than when I started using the mask and I had lots of build-up. My hair was coated in junk.

I did some research on new hair care products. I remembered that a few of my favorite YouTubers had mentioned a brand called Briogeo.

The brand Briogeo really emphasizes the benefits of natural hair care. The line is 6-free and advertises that it does not include sulfates, silicones, phthalates, parabens, DEA, or artificial dyes. Products range between 93-100% natural-derived. The company is based in New York and was started by CEO Nancy Twine.

The only downside to Briogeo? It's expensive.

Product prices range between $20 and $115.

The brand had great views across the board, so I decided to bite the bullet and order a couple products.

Briogeo Scalp Revival charcoal + coconut oil micro-exfoliating shampoo

This shampoo is Briogeo's best selling product. The 8oz jar will run you $42. It claims to be for people with a dry, itchy scalp. It includes charcoal, biotin, peppermint and spearmint oil, tea tree oil as some of the product ingredients.

This shampoo was interesting to use because it didn't suds up like my old shampoo. I've heard that cheap shampoos lather because of the fillers, so this could have been the case. It smelled lovely. It made my scalp tingle and my hair felt so clean - but not stripped. Other shampoos have made my hair squeaky clean but also very dry. The tub was a little awkward to use in the shower, but it made it easier to smell. This shampoo smells amazing.

Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask

This hair mask is the second best selling product on the Briogeo website. This hair mask is 8oz and is sold for $36.

This mask is designed for people with dry and damaged hair. Some of the results in the mask include rosehip oil, algae, B-vitamins, and almond oil.

I thought the shampoo smelled good, but this conditioner smells wonderful. I ran it through my hair, tied it up in a bun, and let it sit for about 20 minutes. My hair was so so soft after I rinsed it out. It felt clean and luscious and much better than the results from the L'Oreal hair mask.

As an added bonus, my order came with free samples and a 20% discount on my next order.

So is Briogeo worth the hype?

From my experience, I would say yes. Part of me was hoping I wouldn't like the brand because of the higher price point. Seeing such a significant difference in my hair after one use has me sold. I feel good about my purchase as well. Supporting a brand with women in leadership, that is ethical, and uses really nice ingredients makes my wallet hurt a little less.

Cheaper haircare is full of damaging ingredients, and while it kept my wallet happy, my hair took a toll. Wax was building up on my hair and it was not cute.

Washing my hair less frequently, using small amounts (because the product is so dense), and overall enjoying my hair will help make my purchase worthwhile.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
