Ever since the elections results have unfolded, I have patiently sat on the sidelines of all different social media to see how people would react. There have been people who have cried about their futures with the newly elected president, there are people who are angered and choose to speak out on the situation, and then there are the people who are joyous that they have the president they feel is best in office.
What bothers me the most about the election is not who won, sure I'm disappointed, but there's nothing I can do but let Trump serve his four year term and try again the next election time. What really upsets me is the divide that is growing between Americans because of the opposing viewpoints everyone has. You cannot expect the country to heal and become unified when we are continuing to draw the boundaries between who belongs and who doesn't.
For those of you who are unhappy with Trump being elected president, it's okay to feel that way. However, it's important to remember that having a voice doesn't mean that you need to go out and turn your anger into hate towards anyone that supports him. Go out and have your protests, voice your grievances, but invite those who don't share the same views as you for a engaging conversation about what it is you believe. You may not be able to change their minds about everything, but at least it's a start.
For those of you who are celebrating your victory of Trump, go ahead. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that who you have been rooting for and supporting for the last year has claimed victory. On the other hand there are still some aspects of the beliefs of some of the Trump supporters that may go far more extreme than your own. If you want to "Make America Great Again," then start with showing compassion to everyone and acknowledge each person as a valuable human life.
This country is known as the "melting pot." We all come from different backgrounds, countries, races, and everything in between. If we want to truly bring forth change then we have to start now where we can. We can start with a smile, a helping hand, or being a voice for those who can't be heard. We are all Americans, it's time we had each others backs.
