When looked back on, 2016 was a mess.
However, it wasn't always the case. When the ball dropped in New York City, I watched as I sat on my couch at home. I was excited for the new year, and a little anxious for what there is to come. For me, 2016 brought change in everything: friendships, relationships, school, and life in general. Every year has its fair share of ups and downs, but as the year is over, there's one thing that I see has been lacking and that's positivity.
Time and time again, people spend New Years Eve and the days leading up, to dwell on the negative things that happened. Now not everything that happened in the year was good, but there is still a lot of good things that happened. Being upset and displeased with how things went is okay, having emotions towards events its good, but focusing on the negatives lead to regrets. And no one needs to carry that weight into the next year.
Being positive is not an all the time thing. It can't be unless it's not real. Life brings decisions and situations that are not wanted and unfavorable, it is inevitable that something bad will happen over the span of 365 days. But to most things there are silver linings. Taking a positive approach even after a bad situation is also good. Positivity is contagious. Being able to carry no weight on their shoulders is something that everyone deserves. And spreading positive vibes to everyone you encounter will hopefully create a chain reaction.
Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days, and that's just part of life. I encourage everyone to head into the new year with open minds and hearts. We're all in this together. Positivity makes impacts inside and out for everyone. So, spread love and joy with everyone you meet. Be respectful of everyone's ideas and beliefs. Act with others in mind. Be open-minded. Allow yourself to smile as much as possible. Think big. Be thankful. Show your appreciation for others. And fill the world with happiness and good vibes.
