We can all spot it from a mile away: the Harry Potter castle of Kansas. It has starred in countless Instagram pictures throughout all seasons, fall and winter alike. The big limestone building where we've all wasted a decent portion of our lives studying (more like cramming) for tests. I know what you're thinking: I could never find a spot to study during finals week, or Hale is the site of uncomfortable group project meetings. But besides those two tiny flaws, Hale has always had our backs. Hale has always been open when we needed to get away from our crappy roommates or even take a break from living in a house with 80+ females. That's a lot of estrogen to be around seven days a week.
Hale is where we've all accepted defeat from a class or tried to fight it. Some of the best memories of college that I have so far happened right in that library. I've watched someone be proposed to there (future husband, take note), I've literally cried over bags of Doritos. Sadly, all of these things happened after the midnight hour. I'm just saying that Cinderella could have totally avoided all that unnecessary drama if her fairy godmother gave her a longer curfew than midnight. Dean Boscoe, you are my fairy godmother. I will trade you my firstborn if you extend the hours of Hale back to what they used to be. I need those few extra hours of solitude to just be a girl versus her homework.
In all seriousness, the atmosphere of Hale has helped me get so much done. Being around other students who are working on their homework is so motivating. A lot of students have night classes and need a place to go study afterwards. Some students have so much to do during the day: clubs, organizations, and athletics on top of classes that the only time they have to go study is at night. I'm so sad and slightly outraged at the early closing hours. What's next? No more Einstein Brothers? It is, simply put, a tragedy and a huge disservice to all the students at K-State. Me and my GPA are begging you K-State: please re-extend the hours of Hale.
