Why PA State Representative, Brian Sims, Needs A Reality Check

His harassment will not stop us from standing up for what is right

If you haven't already seen the video, Pennsylvania State Representative, Brian Sims, recorded a video of himself harassing a woman outside of Planned Parenthood peacefully praying the rosary. In his video, Sims is saying, "Who would have thought that an old, white lady would be out in front of a Planned Parenthood telling people what's right for their bodies. Shame on you… Let's go protest in front of her house and tell her what's right for her body."

Seriously?! Whatever your stance is on abortion, I think we can all agree that verbally abusing an elderly woman is straight up wrong! Imagine that being your grandmother. In this day and age, we're all about, "you do you," "you have your opinion and I have mine, but I respect it." Well, where is that now? Is this woman making a scene about her opinion? Is she a threat? No! On the most basic level, we know this situation is not okay.

He's a bully; it's as simple as that. The United States is all about freedom: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press. When we have a state representative who bashes a citizen for utilizing her freedom in the most peaceful way possible, we have to look at the people we're electing. This situation is wrong on so many levels and it hurts my heart that because she believes and respects life at every stage, she's getting slammed for it.

I commend this woman for showing up and praying for an end to abortion, for peacefully protesting through prayer, for walking away from the man that shamed her. She is praying for those who don't have a voice and for the women who believe they don't have a choice. Honestly, she would make a better representative than Sims.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement.
