As someone currently (and always) in active pursuit of good looking yet comfortable sneakers, Yeezys seemed like a home run until, well, they sold out and the resale price went all the way past a $1,000.00 to a “low” $2,500 on Amazon for a pair of Yeezy black 750’s. However, doing some research can do some good as overseas with currency exchange (and well, let's face it counterfeit too), people are still making a pretty good profit off selling them for $180-200 prominently in south and eastern Asian countries. While they are pretty pricey, are a pair of shoes really worth it?

To some people, yes; allow me to explain. Clothing is a vital form of self expression and affluence allows us to express ourselves and find people with similar styles we like. The social stigmas accompanying less expensive and expensive clothes is a burden to those of us who simply just want to wear clothes and express ourselves. Ashley Neild, a clinical coordinator for Horizons Behavioral Health explains, "self expression is vital to our mental health and psyches overall, especially as teenagers and young adults going through critically mental times that will affect our perceptions for the rest of our lives."
The designer is an artist and the model is the museum used to showcase their art. While all museums may not be to our exact taste, we need to respect each other as not only museums but pieces of art; clothing can be a gateway for that. Clothing can either be a way to tear everyone apart or create unity. As of now our preferences in fashion have created an agreed upon indifference proclaiming that we all don’t have to dress the same and that's quite alright.
Despite this mindset, there has been a recent influx of style and designer bashing for not following the fashion norm as displayed on social media. The start of which seemingly came on Twitter when Kanye West, owner of Yeezy, announced Yeezy’s creative partnership with Adidas. Like a hurricane, the rush of negativity reared it's ugly head. “Well, Adidas sucked anyways before, now I’m really not going to shop there!”, said one user. Similar perspective flooded my timeline following the announcement.
Despite this narrowed minded view of some twitter users, it is time that we accept each other and our own styles as works of art and let our closets be our museums. Some museums look similar but, everyone is unique and different. Our style says a lot about us so, I encourage you to take part in a self promoted and self dignified movement of wearing what you want- whether it be a Scream Queens or a total Daria style. The sooner we accept other’s style or their art, the sooner we can accept our own and unite an unknown community of art- so here is to clothes!
