Breaking The Bread On Break

Countdown till Break

Breaking The Bread On Break

Being on break can come with some drawbacks, as we love our school and our friends we've made. However, here are some awesome things you can look forward to as you break that bread at family dinners during this holiday season!

Everyone is upset to leave their new-found friends and cozy, cute dorm rooms, but here are some awesome things to look forward to on your arrival back home!

1. Christmas

Christmas is a huge holiday celebration for my family! Full of gifts, laughter, and fun for the whole month of December. My friends and I always drive around to look at the Christmas lights on houses or get hot chocolates. Many holiday festivities and traditions will be held and looked forward to this break!

2. Your hometown shopping mall

It’s always a relief to know you can walk into your mall blindfolded, knowing your way around to each store. The familiarity of shopping with your friends is such a comfort.

3. Your own shower

This one is amazing! No shower flip flops, or floor mates on either side of you! Blasting music and singing in the shower is also a nice bonus…oh, that’s just me?

4. Home

Sleeping in your own bed, surrounded by family members in the nearby rooms, the beautifully warm smelling marshmallow latte soap in the bathroom, and the list goes on of how comforting your home can be.

5. Family and friends

This one is very exciting. I don't know about you, but I am already looking forward to running into my friends’ arms and tackling them! Being with friends and family after being away from them really makes you appreciate them more.

6. Driving

Driving your own car is going to be one of the best things. No more trains or paying for cabs anywhere, but driving yourself for free and out of enjoyment more than purpose! This will feel so much more convenient than it used to.

7. Home cooked meals

My mom makes the best home cooked meals. Get ready to say goodbye to the dining hall and swap those measly meals for some good ole’ home cooked meals.

8. No school work!

We are off for a whole month, which means no homework the whole break! Woohoo!

9. Presents

Ah yes, the presents! With the holidays come lots of gifts from family and friends. However, this is the time to think about giving the presents, it’s not all about receiving!

10. Local Food

Where I’m from; food is our pride and joy, and it’s essential to being happy. Make sure to hit up your local bagel shop and pizza place, because nobody does it better than your hometown.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
