I'd like to start the Newsletter off by addressing the photo pictured above. In the left side of the picture, Jonathan Bradley sat on what was my soon-to-be-completed Eagle Scout project at the time. Jonathan volunteered to help me with a project not many else showed up for, as you can see. Jonathan left us on July 27th with a huge heart and strength incomparable to many people you have the privilege of meeting in the duration of life. He showed strength I never knew humans were capable of, and he will always be a guidepost for myself and my other former troop mates in his perseverance, and courage he took life on with.

Breaking News:

"The Day After Tomorrow" predicted what would happen if the Gulf Stream stopped. It was completely wrong about what would happen.

The Gulf-stream slowdown has raised some questions for those that study its impact on the Earth's global temperature. The Gulfstream has not slowed down this much since 1975, and although it appears as if the slowdown is almost finished, the last time this happened global temperatures actually went up.

Images released from the Carr, California Fire

My heart aches for those that have suffered from the wildfires in California. These images show the destruction and ominous nature of the huge fire.

Higher Temperatures Lead To More Suicides: A study

A study that examined the effects of higher temperatures on violence and mental health has made a claim that as temperatures continue to rise in the future, so too will the number of suicides from higher temperatures. While the study is not conclusive, it has found a surprisingly stronger correlation with higher temperatures and increased suicide rates than previously anticipated.

Universities should prepare students for Artificial Intelligence. (Obviously)

Some of the suggestions for schools to prepare to include re-tooling core curriculum to study more computer science in classes, and having students and classes work with corporations to create more AI-based projects in the future.

Raking News:

Irresponsible lending has already led to another housing bubble.

Median Incomes have lagged. Rent is stagnating. Corporate Debt is at it's highest. Public Debt is also high. Inflation is completely out of control in the housing market. FICO scores are being thrown out of the window by some mortgage lenders, and that is a very, very bad thing. Even the hottest season to buy houses, Summer, has seen a significant slowdown in purchases and an increase in properties piling up on the market. Interest rates will continue to rise and out-price many would be new buyers of homes in the United States. (I have no holdings in any large properties, and I represent my own views.)

Shaking News:

Nothing New Here: Sacha Baron Cohen trolls Arizona town

In an absurd fashion, Cohen told the townspeople of Kingman, Arizona they were about to receive a $385 million Mosque, the largest outside of the middle-east. Cohen elicits some of the worst possible responses out of people, but in a pretty hilarious manner too.

AR-15, BB-guns, and Frying Pans used as weapons in Florida Football Gambling Scandal:

I didn't misspell. Those Gators never cease to entertain the rest of the country, on this week's episode of what the hell happened in Florida...

Cat Wine and Dog Beer surprisingly successful!

Finally! Some good news. The creator of Apollo's Peak Cat wine and Dog Beer has been extremely successful, so much so that he even rejected an offer by Kevin O'Leary's team to help grow the business. Thank goodness, if this wasn't invented I would still be drinking alone.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

20 Things You Forgot To Thank Your Mom For

Moms are super heroes dressed in yesterday's clothing and they deserve an award for that.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
