A Breakdown of a Summer Playlist

This summer has been filled with super fun songs that make you want to go out and dance. I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of music in your downtown scene this summer. These songs come with new and inspiring dance moves, too. So, I am going to breakdown this summer’s hot dance mix but with just a few key tunes:

“Watch Me” – Silento

The dances and song that has taken over literally all social media and television everywhere is all compiled into Watch Me by Silento. You’ve seen your next door neighbor, the guy from your hometown trying to make it big, and even the ever so cute and famous Riley Curry hit that whip and Nae-Nae. I can’t even count on one hand how many times I’ve heard this downtown in the past few months. It’s a summer must.

Play when: at midnight. Drunk enough to dance, still sober enough to laugh.

“Trap Queen” – Fetty Wap

Do I even need to explain this? Fetty Wap nailed it. Trap Queen started in the spring and only helped summer become that much better. Do you know every word? Yes. The meaning? Let’s just not even go there, ok?

Play when: once every hour.... at least

“Nasty Freestyle” – T-Nasty

It’s the dance that caught our attention and DO. NOT. LIE. To yourself, you tried to do it in private and laughed at yourself for your lack of rhythm. But, that’s okay, you got downtown and did it anyway. You also car jam to this song – we all do.

Play when: you put on your dancin' shoes. Maybe a few drinks in.

“Talking Body” – Tove Lo

GIRLS NIGHT. GNO with Tove Lo…. But seriously. This is the ultimate girls’ night song. Go out for a few drinks with your girls and you end up asking every bartender to play Talking Body. THAT IS PERFECTLY MORE THAN OKAY. We are all talking body, amiright?

Play when: all your girls walk in, when the girls are all together, anytime your girl starts talking to a cute guy, etc.

“The Hills” – The Weeknd

Grew in popularity midsummer, but still the perfect song to casually jam to. Out for just a few drinks? PERFECT. Request "The Hills" and you’re sure to start the casual head nod. Lets people know you’re there for a good time but also super casual about it. Ja’ feel?

Play when: the night is getting started, casual time.

“Cheerleader – Felix Jaehn Remix” – OMI

Up-beat, pop edge. OMI hit the nail on the head with this one. A fun, spunky beat with some cute lyrics = fun night out with your friends. Maybe something to start off the night and to keep it going. Also, great car jam song with the windows down. OMI has me believin’ I am the perfect cheerleader.

Play when: you're in the happiest mood, car rides, convincing a friend to go out on a random day - particularly Mondays.

“Worth It” – Fifth Harmony ft. Kid Ink

Again, another GNO song. Feelin’ yourself has already played so OF COURSE you’re feelin’ yourself, your outfit and your lipstick so now you have to tell every guy on the spot that you’re definitely worth it, too. And, girl, you are. This song boosts your confidence and your ability to dance for sure. Fifth Harmony added more girl power for the summer.

Play when: your girl is out & you're acting as wing woman.

“Know Yourself” – Drake

I WAS RUNNIN’ THROUGH THE SIX WITH MY WOES. It was and still is everyone’s caption on their Insta photos of their nights out. You’ve probably used it cleverly, too, and again, that is okay. Fun song, Drake rocks (per usual), and this song is great. Again, another good song to casually drink to but then again, why not play this when you and your friends step into the scene? You know you’ve pictured yourself with your friends walking into your favorite place to Drake. Or even singing with Drake. Either way, LOVE IT.

Play when: you're feelin' hot, ready to sing, maybe even in the shower.

“You Know You Like It” – DJ Snake & AlunaGeorge

One of those songs that builds up and you grow to love it. Nice, casual dance beat that allows you to have a fun 4 minutes with your friends. Also, it blew up on the radio, and you’ll hear it at least 3 times on your way home on four different stations. That goes to show it’s a great song and fun to jam to on the way home, to a friend’s place, or before you head out.

Play when: the night is escalating, again maybe a few drinks in to get the right dance moves.

“The Night Is Still Young” – Nicki Minaj

Nicki gives us the perfect song to play when maybe the night is dying down but NO do not fear the night is DEFINITELY still young. Grab your girls & sing your hearts out. The night will pick back up before you know it.

Play when: the night seems to be dying down and you and your friends are looking for a pick me up.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
