Ariana has had it rough in this industry, let me tell you. From being accused of blackface (ever heard of spray tans) to "milking Mac Miller's death" and other things that are absolutely absurd. When she released "thank u, next," I was high key in shambles, but I was like that before when she released the tracklist on her Instagram and the song that I was most excited for was "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored" simply because of the title.
I heard it. Now it's on repeat.
But not everyone is agreeing with the song (or the message behind the song). Me, I see it as a song and nothing more. Honestly, if you want to get technical, she's doing what other singers have said in their songs. Take "Better Than Revenge" by Taylor Swift for example. While it is a bop (I don't even like Taylor Swift that heavy), but she's shaming her romantic opponent for being intimate (i.e, a form of slut shaming). Kanye West's "Gold Digger" (which is also a bop), only talks about a female being a gold digger, when there are guys who are gold diggers. So what's the big deal with Ariana wanting a guy to break up with his girlfriend because she's a whore? (Spoiler alert, she's not wanting the guy anyway).
Ariana is an artist, just like Kanye and Taylor and she's gonna put out what she feels is relevant to her life, so if she wants to go around and "whore it up," then that's her business, but her life has nothing to do with what's wrong with the dating scene today because it's 2019 and its gonna happen. It's one of those things that we just have to live with and accept. Singling out Ariana for one song when there are plenty of others out there with the same message...come on.
It's just a song, bro.
