Dear Odyssey,
We have to break up. It’s not you though, really, it’s me. Although I haven’t always seen eye-to-eye with every article posted on your platform, I will say that I appreciate the fact that you’ve provided me with a lot of great reading material. Whether I needed tips on how to maximize my use of avocados (did you know that you can crush up the seed to make a facial mask?) or a list of reasons why the show "Shameless" is super relatable, you were always there for me. Where there was a bubble bath lacking in reading material, you were always there for me. Where there was a boring dinner party filled with less-than-stimulating conversation, you were there for me. I truly appreciate the fact that no matter how wrong or irrelevant the articles were, you worked hard to give each and every writer the chance to share their opinions with the world.
Thank you for always allowing me to write about whatever I was feeling throughout the week. Whether I was super dehydrated and wanted to tell the world why they should be drinking more water, or I got a new method of birth control and wanted to share that experience with everyone I know. Without you, I would never have had the opportunity to get these opinions passed the occasional tweet or long facebook status. Although none of my articles ever went viral, I still appreciate the fact that I was able to put them out there. I’ve had the greatest team, with the best editors, and some of the most interesting and insightful writers that a person could ask for and I appreciate every moment of it.
I’m sorry that we have to part now, but as much as I like sharing my opinions with the world, I have to focus on my education and my work life so that I can become something bigger and better than the person that I currently am. I’ll never forget all the moments that I avoided reading a book or writing a paper for school so that I could write about something far more interesting. Thanks for all of the memories and the fond times that we’ve had together. I’ll never forget you. Whenever there is a 20 year-old, Southern, privileged girl writing about why she doesn’t need feminism, I’ll be there. Whenever there is a college senior telling rising college students to party their younger years away, I’ll be there.
Thanks for the memories,
Jaela Zellars
