Break Him

In the midst of this presidential election, anxiety and worry are filling so many lives. Some people are overtaken by upset and anger because of the result of the election. Others are ecstatic and filled with relief and excitement. As a supporter of Donald Trump, I can say that I am also super relieved and happy with the decision that our country has made; however, I will not allow my mind to be transformed into neither bitterness nor boastfulness about the political circumstances of this nation.

When you look on social media, it is devastating to see how consumed it is with hate. Yes- many people have negative feelings towards Donald Trump. (If Hillary Clinton was elected, we would be hearing and seeing the same kind of distress and complaints.) But, we cannot let the things of this world mold the direction of our thoughts and emotions. This world is not our home and as we continue to move forward on the earth, the one thing that we can truly and eternally depend on is Jesus Christ. He is forever, He is the King, and He is in total control.

Even though my preference for President of the United States was favored, that does not mean I set my dependence on Donald Trump. I praise Jesus that we have been given the opportunity to elect the leader of this country, but most of all, I rejoice in the fact that I can confidently put my trust in the Lord, knowing that He can completely transform any heart and mind. With this, I stand firmly in my faith and I simply pray.

I pray that Trump turns his heart fully to the Lord.

I pray that he will be overwhelmed by the perfect love and endless grace of our God.

I pray that wisdom and discernment will permeate his mind.

& I also pray for this: That this new President of the United States will be broken. So broken that all he has left to do is fall to his knees in mercy, begging for peace and direction that comes only from the Ruler of all of the land, Jesus Christ.

I know, it sounds awful- I am asking the Lord to emotionally break the President of the United States… but this is not a bad thing! When we are broken, we are put into a place where there is only one way out, which is through Him. It doesn't matter who it is- heck, if Hillary Clinton was elected I would be praying the same exact thing for her. So yes, I ask that God would break Donald Trump & I am so thankful that I am able to rest in the peace of knowing that our Savior is working through this new season. Seek the Lord through all anxiousness and fear, trust that His plan is perfect & good, and know that He is able to transform a heart with a single word.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
