Whether we wake up at midnight and walk to the refrigerator to find a snack or procrastinate studying the day before the test, these are habits we need to break. According to Dictionary.com, habit is an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary. There are several bad habits that college students have that must be broken or otherwise it will affect us in our everyday life
1. Eating unhealthy.
Point is, this is one the biggest things we hear on the daily such as on the news, social media and sometimes by our doctors when we go for our yearly check-ups is to start eating right. Truth is, college students are #1 for people who eat more junk food than others. We crave for those chocolate chip cookies, those Frapps from Starbucks, those delicious donuts, and muffins from Dunkin Donuts and even some Mcdonald's and KFC chicken!
Of course, it's understandable that healthy food items are technically more expensive than that of junk.
But we need to break this habit of unhealthy eating and instead drink water, eat fruits and vegetables. Because if not, college students have more of a higher chance developing diabetes and hypertension later on their future years. Better break that habit!
2. Texting and driving.
Worst habit is to text during driving. Many of them have become pro's and are confident enough to think they will never get into any accidents. Nearly 80% of college students do this. Eleven teens (college students included) die ever day due to texting and driving.
Another interesting fact is that based on the AAA poll, nearly 98% of teens know the risks of texting and driving but almost 40% of them do it regardless. This is a habit that must break soon! Because it can lead to death or even fatally injured. Not only that, but you will also affect other drivers when getting into an accident.
3. Procrastination.
Everyone understands that procrastination is not the best thing to do but we tend to it anyways. This habit has become so practiced by plethora of college students. Why put yourself more stress than you have to?
Plan ahead always. Study 30-45 minutes every day rather than studying 5 chapters worth of information in one night. Unless you work well under extreme pressure.
4. Not enough sleep.
As college students, we tend to pull all-nighters and we barely get enough rest. Many of us blame our classes, our work assignments, social life, jobs, family life, and studying. Truth is, we undergo more stress because of everything we try to do to become adults. So much to do, so little time, But it is vital to get enough sleep (roughly 8-9 hours) every night (or day for those who work night shifts). Our body needs rest in order to prevent impairment of learning.
Sleep is important for our memory, maintaining a good weight, lowering stress, and more!
5. Too much drinking!
Okay, okay, we know that many college students tend to go to parties and simply get wasted. Nearly all of them know the effects of drinking, yet they do it anyways. Is it for the adrenaline rush? Fun? Or do they enjoy the after effects the next day. Drinking too much alcohol can affect many organs in your body. Not only that but there have been studies that it may cause cancer.
That should be scary enough. Make it a habit to drink moderately or not drink at all. Never go overboard because this habit can lead to DEATH!
Break this habits or they will break YOU!
