Break from College or from Work?

Spring Break is about to officially start, but it's not going to actually feel like one.

For some of us, Spring Break is actually going to be what Spring Break is supposed to be: relaxing, catching up with friends and/or family, sleeping and etc. While the rest of us, if you are like me, will be coming home for Spring Break, but with homework. Yes it's a sad day because my professors are like you don't have work, but according to the syllabus we have to talk about an assignment the first day we get back which means I have to do "work" over break to prepare for Monday. At least my break is like a week so I can do work and try do to other things as well which would most likely be sleeping.

Spring Break couldn't come any sooner because I'm ready to be done with midterms. Even though I officially only had one, all the quizzes and tests that I have in between doesn't make it any better. But once Spring Break goes, I'll be counting down until May 10th so I can be on summer vacation. Even though it will be a summer of job hunting and working on articles, it will be worth it in the long run. Also the idea of deciding what classes I have to take next semester is going to be a pain planning that out for.

Deciding on classes isn't hard, the hard part is going for the section that have the best time for you, actually getting into that section, making sure not to have too early classes but also at the same not have any late classes. With my major when I have workshops, they are 6-8:30pm so that's going to be fun going to those once a week. At least it's for what I actually like to do, writing stories, but coming up with ideas is another ballgame I have to do. Creativity is one thing, but sometimes my short story ideas turn into long ideas which makes it become more of a novel than a short story. I have plenty of unfinished stories that I'm going to be working on for the summer. That sounds more like a job, but it's all for amusement and for the people who actually read my stories online for their enjoyment.

Lastly, with the month of March and spring break being next week, it's almost my roommate's birthday. I been sending her pics of her favorite kpop idol, thanks to me for finding him for her, starting March 1st and I might officially stop on her birthday March 15, but it won't be fun messing with her anymore so I may continue. I feel so young being a summer baby of '98 with everyone turning 19 before me. I wont be 21 until my last year of college and I barely look like my age now, who knows if I even change in 4 years because I haven't changed much since 8th grade besides glasses and hair wise.

Finally, to everyone that's going to be on spring break, I hope you make the most of it and to everyone who is already on spring break, I hope you are having fun as well!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
