What To Expect When You Get A Brazilian Wax

How to anticipate being razor free.

To most people, Brazilian waxing is a terrifying subject, surrounded by endless mental images of pain and suffering. Some poor, scared soul has talked it up to be the torture of the century where only the bravest of the brave can withstand the pulling of groin hair. In reality, it's not all that bad, and it only gets better with time. I'm here to help you differentiate between the horrific fallacies and the slightly-less-scary facts.

Lets start by addressing the elephant in the room: You're naked from the waist down. Don't freak out! The esthetician has waxed plenty of people before you, and will continue on her journey for a baby smooth world long after you're gone. It's nothing to dwell on, so strip down and get on with your life.

While you're experiencing that weird breeze that you usually don't notice with clothes on, your waxer will put you through what feels like an odd yoga class. You're going to do your part in helping her by getting into a few different positions such as the butterfly. Awkward? Yes. Necessary? Very.

I know what you must be thinking, "Isn't it painful?" It's really not that bad. I'm not saying that it doesn't hurt, because it does, but the pain lasts for seconds while the smoothness lasts for weeks! A good Esthetician will be fast and efficient. Rather than ask you if you need a break, she'll tell you that you're doing great and get it done as fast as she can. The best part is, the pain is practically cut in half if you wax again the next month! This is due to the fact that you haven't given the hair time to fully bulb which makes first-time waxing, or waxing after shaving for a few months, the most painful! Regular waxes make the hair finer and the bulb smaller.

All in all, you just have to weigh the cost versus benefit for you and your lifestyle. If you're happy with what you're doing, stick with it! If you're interested in getting a Brazilian for the first time, check out my follow-up article next Wednesday for some Do's and Don'ts about Brazilian waxing!

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
