If you've taken the leap and decided to schedule an appointment for Brazilian waxing (and actually go through with it), there are a few things you need to know to make it easier on you as well as your waxer. The process will be fast but not painless. Here are some tips for aftercare.
1. DO Let the hair grow out for at least a full week!
The hair needs to be 1/4 inch long so that the wax has something to hold on to!
2. DON'T Shave or tweeze in-between waxing!
Due to your hair being in different cycles of growth, the first and second (and maybe the third) session of waxing may require some tweezing... I know it sounds bad but it almost doesn't hurt when compared to what you JUST went through.
3. DO Exfoliate the area on a daily basis will help clear dead skin, making it less likely to get ingrown hairs.
You can use a simple natural sponge loofa or an exfoliating glove. Try to stay away from salt or sugar scrubs, they will increase your chances of developing oil clogged pores.
4. DON'T Go swimming or soaking anywhere for the first week, especially the day of/after waxing.
Steam from saunas opens pores which helps to push out hair which makes it seem as if the esthetician waxed badly. Hot and wet places are also a great place for bacteria to grow and being freshly waxed makes you more susceptible to infection in these places.
5. DO keep the area away from constant friction.
This could lead to further irritation and possibly ingrown hairs.
6. DON'T Apply lotions, gels or creams after waxing, especially those with perfumes or alcohol in them. It'll feel like you're on fire for at least 30 minutes.
7. DO Avoid exercising the day that you wax. Your sweat will be irritating for hours.
8. DON'T Sunbathe 24 hours after waxing.
Your skin is vulnerable and the wax may have taken off the fist layer of skin cells, making the sweat (not to mention a sun burn) much more irritating.
9. DO Avoid touching freshly waxed skin.
10. DON'T cancel If you get your period.
They have fresh wipes/tampons on site. If you're comfortable, they're comfortable, although you may wan't to note that people are traditionally more sensitive on their periods.
