We live in a world where only certain types of people have been branded "beautiful" in fashion industries and the media. The media of the west tends to glorify white, clear skinned, cis-gender, thin, symmetrical faced and able bodied men and women as "beautiful," when in reality beauty comes in several shapes, forms, colors, and sizes. People are afraid of the unusual and unconventional sides of beauty; but we forget that it is our uniqueness, personality, and our confidence in ourselves, that make us beautiful. Here are 10 people who are redefining beauty standards.

1. Winnie Harlow

Winnie Harlow is a twenty-one year old Canadian model who was diagnosed with vitiligo at the age of four. During her childhood, she was called names such as “cow” and “zebra” due to her skin tone. She decided that she would not tolerate the bullying. After auditioning for “America's Next Top Model”, she was placed in the top sixth position and was featured in Drake’s “Know Yourself” song: “Reps up is in here got P Reign and Chubby and TJ and Winnie and whoa/Yeah, and you know how that should go.” She was also featured in several promotional videos such as in underground artist, JMSN’s video, “The One”. Harlow lives by the phrase, “black comes in all shades”, and addresses cultural appropriation.

2. Cassandra Naud

Cassandra Naud is a professional dancer who has hypertrichosis, which is a condition of excessive hair growth on parts of the body. Naud has this birthmark under her right eye, and was bullied as a child. Her parents decided to not remove it due to the possibility of scarring. Naud transgressed and managed to book several dance shows and allowed her birthmark to help her stand out. It is a unique feature of hers that she has no plans of letting go of.

Dove jokingly uses the term “gender capitalist” to describe herself, but also realizes that there are unfair advantages of being cast as a certain gender.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
