It started with the Varsity jacket. Wearing the big, bulky thing with his name on the front and all of his glorious achievements on the back to symbolize that you were going steady with your high school boo. You were his girl. Walking around in an oversized jacket proved that. Why? You didn't know. It just did.
Now, you're in your late teens or early twenties and still get giddy when your man hands over a hoodie and says, "Here babe, take this."
On some level, it's pointless. Why are we so excited at the idea of wearing another person's clothes?
On another level, it is everything, because that is our man's hoodie, or sweatshirt, or big, baggy t-shirt that he hasn't worn since sophomore year.
It's warm, for the cold nights when he's not there with us. (Kind of cringe-worthy? Yes. Do we willingly use that excuse when our man asks us why we haven't given his clothes back? Also yes.)
It smells like him. And for obvious reasons, we like that. So go ahead, spray that thing in cologne, guys. We'll be happy later.
It makes us feel special, simply put. Walking around in our guy's clothes is a rite of passage at any age. It's not just for high schoolers.
It just makes us happy.
We'll make any excuse to steal your clothes, boys. Need pajamas when we stay over? Babe's t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Need clothes to watch Netflix in? Sweatpants, pronto. Cold, and conveniently didn't bring a coat? Um, sweatshirt, please! Bonus points if any of the above smell like your cologne.
Your clothes will always be more comfortable than ours. We like them better. No matter what it is. Why? Just because it's yours.
So, don't mind if I do take that hoodie, babe. Thank you.
Spoiler alert: You are never getting it back.
