My boyfriend loves to play video games in his spare time and with his friends. They often play sports games together, although halfway through the game one or both plays are claiming the game is really cheating.
Advantages and disadvantages are given to players. Some advantages help you in some situations however you are not in control of what you are given. When playing two player, your opponent may get advantages that are unfair, and don't get my boyfriend started on the computer.
There is a level of respect and appreciation for the real-life game experience, although it is still a game. It is bought to be played and to explore the possibilities of each situation. You can expect your boyfriend to be a little heated after he's done playing. It's like watching sports but the level of attachment is higher.
Although your boyfriend knows he's not the team/character he's playing. There is a deep emotional connection to them once many hours have been spent playing the game or they are really big fans of the person or persons they are representing. There may also be an emotional connection to the sport they are playing due to playing them at one time.
As someone that has played the sport before you can understand their frustration of playing a game that feels unfair. Players often do not do as you think they should. Those that are controlled by the computer often do not follow things that actual people would do. Which came to make the real-life gameplay feel fake.
Although he critiques 2K, he does not see himself discontinuing buying their games or playing them. This is due to their being no other competition with sports games. The graphics are also very impressive. It's 2K or nothing when it comes to sports video games. That why my boyfriend and his friends will continue to play the game and halfway through claim it's cheating again.
