Following Target's announcement that transgender customers can use whichever restroom or fitting room they choose with no questions asked, in one week almost a million people have signed the American Family Association's petition to boycott Target.
A quick look at Target's Facebook page will show how upset people are over this announcement to sacrifice privacy in private areas in order to prevent offending.
Many of the posts on their page are coming from mothers who refuse to shop at Target anymore because they do not believe they should be spending their money at a business that places the feelings of a very small and confused minority over the safety of their children.
The most common argument, which I personally agree with, against this policy is that it opens the door to sexual predators. There have been several instances in which a man has dressed as a female to gain access to the women's restroom and spy on women and children.
If someone like that knows he can walk into a women's bathroom or changing room with no questions asked, won't that just enable him? Yes, someone who is out to rape or sexually assault someone will find a way to do so, but we should not be making it even easier for them.
In some stores, such as Old Navy, there only is one dressing room area. However, in a case like this, the dressing room area is normally in the middle of the store instead of in a corner in the back and have someone to supervise the activity there; therefore, someone would be easily caught if they were trying to get away with something inappropriate.
Also, many dressing rooms have walls that go all the way to the floor and high enough that they cannot be seen over and no gaps in the door, unlike most public restrooms which can easily be seen into.
Male (and female) sexual predators are now able to walk right into the dressing room of the opposite sex without being questioned, putting those adults and children at risk. Children are some of the most vulnerable members of our society, and we should make sure they are protected first and foremost.
I have heard the claim that transgenders feel unsafe in the bathroom of their biological sex, but they are adults. If their feelings are hurt, they need to learn to grow up and deal with the fact that not everyone will like them.
The safety of children that would be exposed to the risks associated with allowing anyone in any bathroom or changing room of their choice is more important than making sure no one is offended.
Political correctness has gone so far to the point where people are willing to sacrifice safety to look inclusive. Where are the rights of these children who cannot speak up for themselves?
I often hear that the war on women is real. However, the so-called "war on women" is not being waged by pro-life groups and conservative Republicans -- it is being waged by the politically correct leftists who would choose to sacrifice my safety for the sake of the appearance of being inclusive.
Where are my rights to say I'm not comfortable alone in a restroom with someone who is biologically male, looks like a man, and dresses like a man? Where is my right to privacy? Anyone who considers themselves a feminist should be appalled by this new policy that puts women at risk.
People WILL take advantage of store policies like this, and there will not be consequences. Privacy will be invaded by those seeking to cause harm.
Offer a gender neutral or family bathroom, but do not enable sexual predators. Do not make things easier for the those ill-intentioned people who will see this as an opportunity.
On top of that, Target is also anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment.
So keep in mind that they want to send you, your spouse, your children, your family into bathrooms with people of the opposite gender and leave you with no way to protect yourselves.
I have signed the petition and I encourage every woman, parent, and person with common sense to do the same until Target realizes that they are putting many millions of people in danger with this policy.
