The power of the people is truly astounding. According to The Washington Post, over 600 marches have taken place across the United States; from Los Angeles to Boston and everywhere in between. Cities in other countries such as Paris, London, Melbourne, and Amsterdam were prominent in marching. Nonetheless, the Women's March had a global effect. It was reported that marches also occurred in all seven continents. USA Today stated that a whopping 2.5 million people across the globe participated in a Women's March.
In Boston, The Boston Women's March was said to originally expect around 20,000 people to participate. However, over 125,000 people showed up to peacefully protest the 45th president of the United States.
The T system was reported to have added extra trains to their stations in order for people to get into the downtown area. "The Orange Line from Forest Hills Station was packed with more people than a morning commute," was said from a passing marcher.
Speakers like Mayor Marty Walsh, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey affirmed that the march was for the people of Boston and everywhere else to resist the government of preaching hate and bigotry.The outcry from across and outside the country have been seen. American democracy is mobilizing. People of all backgrounds all came together to exercise their rights and have their voices be heard.
