14 Reasons Why Boston Terriers Are The Best Dogs

Every dog lover probably has their favorite dog breed. Personally, mine is the Boston Terrier. After my family moved houses in middle school, my mom promised to look into getting a dog once the house was all finished. After researching what dog would be perfect for our family, we chose the Boston Terrier. Thanks to Petfinder.com my family adopted our first Boston, Rilee, seven years ago through the rescue organization, Friends of Homeless Animals. Less than a year later we adopted a second Boston from the same organization, Rosee. I've been in love with them ever since because they truly are the best dog breed.

1. Bostons are the first real American dog according the the American Kennel Club (AKC), as they were the first dog breed developed in the US starting in 1865.

2. They are nicknamed the American Gentleman for their tuxedo markings of white and black and/or brindle.

3. But don't let their good looks fool you, Bostons are very quirky and can be a clown that make you laugh!

4. Like other dog breeds they aim to please you and are extremely loyal, and were originally bred to be companion dogs.

5. They want to be by your side all the time, and will probably have no problem doing whatever you are doing. Whether you're having a lazy day or an active day at the beach, Bostons are happy doing either.

6. With their friendliness and good temperament, Bostons have the ideal mix of being great in apartments while also having energy to be active all day.

7. They are the perfect size, about 15-25 pounds; not too small but small enough to take with you almost anywhere.

8. Boston are extremely quiet dogs, and have a reason to bark when they do like when someone comes to the front door of your house (making them good guard dogs).

9. Because their coat is sleek and more like hair, there’s no need for expensive grooming or hours of brushing. They only need a bath every month and a quick brush once a week.

10. They are also the perfect family dog. Spirited and lively but gentle and intelligent.

11. Their combination of small body and short hair means they feel the cold easily, the perfect excuse to pick them out a cute sweater or coat!

12. Bostons are the perfect snugglers to show you how much they love and appreciate you.

13. From 1905 to 1939 the Boston Terrier was the most popular dog breed in the US, and has been in the Top 20 since, according to the AKC.

14. Bonus: they're so photogenic, and are always ready for the camera!

Overall, Boston Terriers are the perfect dog for almost anyone. Adopt a pet, don’t shop from pet stores or breeders!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
