The Days of the Week as Told by SpongeBob

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

The Days of the Week as Told by SpongeBob

One of my favorite childhood routines was when I would roll out of bed and turn the TV on, only to have my tired eyes jolted open by of SpongeBob's piercing laughter. For the next fifteen minutes, my mind would be fully captivated by the world's favorite yellow sponge and his ridiculous antics on the illuminated screen ahead. Fast forward 10 years later and the show still elicits the same reaction from me. Somehow, Spongebob never gets old to me, and I will never be too old for Spongebob.

I can confidently say that he has been through more in his life than I'll ever encounter in mine. From protecting the Krabby Patty secret formula to catching jellyfish and everything in between, he has experienced every possible emotion and situation. Therefore, I figured that he is the perfect candidate to sum up my sentiments for each day of the week.

SUNDAY

Sick SpongeBob is exactly how I feel on Sundays. (Try saying that five times fast.) During this episode, SpongeBob accidentally leaves his refrigerator open overnight and freezes, causing him to develop an awful sickness known as “the suds.” He becomes more and more inflated with bubbles until he is deformed into a spherical shape. Sandy and Patrick lose control and accidentally push him down a hill, where SpongeBob comes to a halt after almost crashing into a building. If that’s not a perfect metaphor for my Sundays, I’m not quite sure what is.

MONDAY

SpongeBob looks exactly like me here after I snooze my alarm twice before trudging over to class on a Monday morning. Although he has far more important things to do with his life than go to biology lectures (i.e. making Krabby Patties), I still feel the same pain that he goes through when trying to reboot after the weekend. Seeing this side of Spongebob is rare, as he is so often heard yelling “I’M READY! I’M READY!” and giving everyone a nice headache to start off the day.

TUESDAY

As SpongeBob is usually cheerful and buoyant, I follow suit and start off every Tuesday with a glimpse of hope. I figure that the day can’t possibly be worse than a Monday, so why not take it on with a positive outlook? In this episode, Spongebob is optimistic as he studies to become a waiter at the Krusty Krab. He ends up performing well until a customers asks him his name. Because he has put so much effort into memorizing restaurant etiquette, he cannot remember it. The second SpongeBob’s brain goes up in flames is the same moment I come to the sad realization that I’m only two days into the week. I still have a long way to go until the weekend.

WEDNESDAY

Things are beginning to look up for both SpongeBob and me on Wednesdays. This is a clip from when him and Squidward were stranded in the middle of a forest and only had a magic conch shell to provide them “yes” or “no” answers to the questions that they asked. While Squidward inquires about if they’ll make it out alive or not, Spongebob clearly asks the important questions regarding his future love life. He keeps an optimistic attitude on the situation, as I try to do the same when enduring the final two-day push to the weekend.

THURSDAY

Thursdays are a tease for me. SpongeBob shares similar sentiments when he unfortunately gets stuck at Glove World alone at night and just barely misses the bus home. Things are almost good, but the weekend's not quite here yet. Something to keep in mind here is that it could always be worse. Let’s not forget the episode when SpongeBob was sent to Weenie Hut Jr.’s because he wasn’t tough enough, and then kicked out of there to go to Super Weenie Hut Jr.’s. (Does anyone remember that episode? I do.)

FRIDAY

F is for friends who do stuff together, and F is also for Friday! If you guys have seen this episode, you’ve also heard SpongeBob’s catchy tune that accompany his killer dance moves. This song embodies the liveliness that I have on Fridays due to my exemption from classes for the upcoming two days.Unless I sing Plankton’s version that involves fire and uranium bombs, because that definitely won’t make for a good weekend. (Side note: My apologies for the people who will now have this chime stuck in their heads for the next week. You are not alone.)

SATURDAY

The Krusty Krab pizza is an all-time classic when it comes to SpongeBob episodes. Squidward and SpongeBob embark on a journey after receiving an order to deliver an order to a customer. While Spongebob revels in the journey and everything that it entails, Squidward has a miserable time. I assume the role of SpongeBob on my Saturdays -- regardless of the circumstances around me, I refuse to let anything bring me down. I try to make the most of any night, for it is the last chance I have to enjoy myself before I catch the suds again on Sunday morning.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
