Everyone knows about sports. Whether you just acknowledge that they exist, or you know every rule, stat, and player, you know about sports. Some are more fun to watch than others, but they all serve a purpose. It's important to see the potential in all of them. You'll come to find that even curling is very important. And this is not to hate on the people who play these sports. They are talented individuals who have much more going for them than I do. Regardless, these sports may be boring, but they are also essential.
1. Professional Basketball- No one cares about professional basketball. All the players are good and the scores get into the hundreds, and it starts to feel pretty darn pointless. And then all of a sudden you are hanging out somewhere, there is nothing on TV, and the need to be entertained is at an all time high. So, you turn on the NBA. No one will ever get too distracted, or into the game, but if there's ever an awkward moment when no one has anything to say, everyone can pretend to watch the game.
2. Golf- The golf channel is absolutely the most amazing napping channel ever. The soothing sounds of the announcers will lull any insomniac into an almost hypnotic sleep.
3. Curling- First off, they rock some pretty gnarly pants. But even more important is that you get to watch and just wonder how any of these people got into curling as a sport. Did they offer it as a varsity sport at their high school in Antarctica? Did they just stumble upon a curling match and join in? The entertainment is all in the mystery of how they all got started.
4. Bobsledding- It seems confusing that there is any sort of strategy in flying down an ice chute in a little box-car -looking- thing, but I know I can't do it, so I give those guys mad props. More importantly, it is impossible to watch bobsledding and not remember the good old days of watching the movie Cool Runnings, and cheering on those Jamaican bobsledders.
5.Nascar- It goes on for hours, but not much happens at all. The same drivers compete pretty much every year and there is no "home team" to root for. The thing about Nascar is the people watching. This becomes a sport of its own. It's like watching bad reality TV, and once you get into it, I promise you will have seen enough strange people to last a lifetime.
There are tons of other odd and offbeat sports that are important, but you get the picture. Every sport should be treated with equal respect because one day you'll be watching darts, and have the best idea for a new invention, that came to you all because of the intense dart competition you were watching. So, thanks to all you boring sports. You are kind, you are important, you are beautiful.
