Signs You Are Ready For Your January Break To End
Odyssey

Well, it’s that time of year where college students are headed back to school for their spring semester. If they haven’t already made it back they will be headed back within the next couple of weeks. In most cases, that is. For Keuka College, students have an extended break to complete something called a Field Period (in the most basic of terms, lacking many details, a Field Period is an internship).

Sometimes, however, students aren’t using their time in January to complete Field Periods. Maybe they’ve already finished their requirements for all of their Field Periods or perhaps they were unable to find one for the month of January. For those students, January becomes an extended period of winter break. While it is nice to have a bit of a break from school, it gets to the point where it’s just time to get back into the swing of things at school. Here are some signs that you’re just ready to get back to class.

You’re Working All The Time

You have a lot of free time, so you decide that you ought to be put on the schedule for most of that free time. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a break or free time, but you’ve got to make some money. However, sometimes things are just the opposite.

You Aren’t Working

So, you may have asked your employer if you could be put on the schedule a bit more. You’re home, not doing anything else, and really need the money. That’s the perfect time to work a lot, right?! BUT, given absolutely no reason, you’re only being scheduled twice a week with short shifts. I think it’s time to start looking for a new job… Not that you’ll likely land one with only a few weeks left of your break… So, why not hang out with your friends?!

Your Friends Are Back At College

That’s right. Your college break and your friends’ college breaks just aren’t at the same time! So, while they’re complaining that they’re already back at school, you’re gloating that you get to stay home until February. What do you get to do while you’re at home, not working?

Binge-Watching Netflix

Well, with all of your new found free time, you decide it would be a great time to discover some new shows on Netflix. Hey, nobody can say it’s interrupting your studies if you’re not at school, right!? But here’s the problem. You’ve had too much free time and you have spent so much of it on Netflix that you’ve binge-watched your way through all of those shows that you had been meaning to get into. You’ve watched them all! What now?

Boredom: 24/7

You’ve run out of ideas. Your friends are back at their colleges, your college friends are hours away, and maybe you live in a small town where there really is no “going out”, or you live in a city and don’t want to be the loser that is “going out” on their own. You’ve spent all your time binge watching shows on Netflix, so now there’s nothing to do. You’re just plain bored.

Boredom: Eating

It seems that eating tends to be the solution to many things. People stress eat, so why not boredom-eat? You can’t tell me that you have never been so bored that you just want to eat; I won’t believe you if you did.

Help me out here, people. I’ve still got a few more weeks of break before I get to student teach and be bored at school with my friends. Give me some tips that help you cure your boredom in the comments below!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
