The Bored Person's Guide To NYC Events This Summer

The mystical, three-month period of fantastic warm wonder is quickly approaching — yes, summer is right around the corner. The days start off bold, with fifteen-hour naps and eating your parents’ cooking until your heart’s content. Then that ends and you’re hit with the reality of working a full-time job or internship. This can make summer feel monotonous and unfairly consumed by whatever responsibilities you may have.

Spending the summer in or around New York City is a blessing for everyone, not just 21-year-olds, but for anyone of any age.

Whether you love feeling your bare shoulders sway to the beat in Central Park, or just love a good hotdog, sultry days in New York City should be taken advantage of.

Tribeca Film Festival

Have a night pretending you’re a celebrity and head over to catch a viewing at the Tribeca Film Festival. Although tickets can be priced up to $1, 250, regular screenings are only about $15.

Brooklyn Folk Festival

Grab some friends and head over to hear a multitude of folk bands held at the beautiful historical St. Ann’s Church in Brooklyn Heights. Check out the line-up here.

Five Boro Craft Beer Festival

This outdoor festival features local craft beer from a range of New York City boroughs. For one price you can eat, drink as much beer as you want, and even hear live music.

Smorgasburg

Be a part of the Instagram sensationalized food festival and hit up Smorgasburg (Sundays in Prospect Park, Saturdays in Williamsburg) this summer. Whether you’re in the mood for heavily topped fresh French fries or the ever-trendy raindrop cake, Smorgasburg is perfect for a day out in the city.

Summer Stage

Check out the line-up for every show presented at Summer Stage in Central Park this upcoming season. All you have to do is show up and have a great time listening to artists you love.

Rooftop Films

Make the movies a little more interesting by catching them outside on top of a beautiful building in NYC. Check this season’s lineup on their website to see which films are worth coming out for.

MoMA PS1 Warm Up

This awesome event showcases professional and amateur art, a crazy musical lineup, and locally sourced craft beer. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event you cannot miss.

The Moth

The Moth is a space for storytellers to share their crafted audible works on stage in NYC. They have shows multiple times a week all year round, and you can even prepare and submit a story ahead of time if you’re looking to perform.

Keep busy in the city that never sleeps this summer - it's a lot easier than you think!

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
