Towards the end of spring and into summer comes a time where a lot of us have our hands free and out pockets empty. Along with that also comes the annoyance known as boredom. However, lucky little ducky you are, I've compiled a list of a few things to do that are almost always free and get you outside of your house!

Go On A Picnic

This can be done with anyone or by yourself! Grab a few snacks or make some tasty things for lunch, grab a blanket and a bag and head outside. You don't need a basket, although brownie points for you if you bring one!

Walk Your Pets or Other's

You're not the only one who needs to get outside, remember that! Pets are amazing to have but can sometimes be very high-maintenance. Taking a walk with your dog, cat, lizard, bird or any other lovely creature will just be more bonding time for you two. If you don't have any pets, you could ask someone you know if their's needs to be walked.

Go On A Hike

So easy! All you need is comfy clothes and a sturdy set of boots or sneakers and you're halfway there. Find a set of woods or a park you've never been and begin your journey! Although be careful on this one, I'm sure there are many people who would be worried if something were to happen. If you do this one alone, make sure someone knows where you are and what time to expect you to be back.

Read A Book At A Local Coffee Shop Or Bookstore

You can find a book laying around the house that you've either read a hundred times or never got to read. Either way, a coffee shop or bookstore are usually the two coziest outside-of-home places to read (in my opinion, anyway).

Volunteer

Soup kitchens, after-school programs, homeless shelters, galore! There's always an organization looking for volunteers and I'm sure any place would love an extra set of helping hands.

Sunbathe

Not everyone lives where it's acceptable (or possible) to sunbathe all year round, however summer is approaching so the heat is coming and the sun will shine!

Stargaze

Laying out a blanket under the stars in the back of a truck, on a field, or even your own yard can take you to a new level of relaxing. (Extra points for you if you can point out some constellations!)

Go To A Museum or Art Gallery

Most museums have days where their exhibits are free for students, children and families. Although this varies city to city, and there are select days.

Ride A Bike

Exercising can always be free! A walk, jog, or run throughout your neighborhood or a park will get your out of the house and pumped for other activities!

Take Pictures Around Town

Whether it's in your neighborhood or downtown, the world is full of beauty. Grab a camera or your cell phone and explore! Document your journey

Now, these definitely aren't the only things to do when you're either bored or broke, but they're personally my favorite. If you have any other suggestions or ideas, comment and share to let me know!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
