Books You Should Be Reading This Fall

Sweater weather is here! There's something about fall weather that just makes me want to curl up with a warm cup of coffee and a book. While classes can get extra busy around this time, it's definitely important to take some time to relax. Here are some great novels to unwind with this fall season:

1. "Luckiest Girl Alive" by Jessica Knoll

For fans of the cult-favorites "Gone Girl" and "The Girl On The Train," this one's for you. Ani FaNelli lives a glamorous life — dream job, expensive clothes and a handsome husband. But she has a secret. She is haunted by an event that occurred in her past when she was a teenager at a prestigious private school, and her demons threaten to destroy the perfect life she's always desired. Full of shocking twists that will keep you turning the pages, you'll finish this book before you can say "pumpkin spice."

2. "Two By Two" by Nicholas Sparks

It's cuffing season, therefore a Nicholas Sparks novel is a must. What better timing? But the love story in "Two By Two" isn't one that you'd typically expect from Sparks. This one follows a man named Russell Green, who appears to be living the dream with a beautiful wife and daughter, thriving career and nice home. But all that changes when everything falls apart. He's suddenly without a wife or a job, and is thrust into being a single parent. I wonder if we'll see a "Two By Two" film in the future...

3. "Truly Madly Guilty" by Liane Moriarty

If you've read, or even heard of, any of Liane Moriarty's other captivating and suspenseful novels, you'll know that she does not disappoint. She's back at it again with her latest release "Truly Madly Guilty."The novel focuses on three "happy" families, and the last-minute invitation to a barbecue between friends where something happens that will change them forever.

4. "Milk and Honey" by Rupi Kaur

This collection of poetry and prose has been super popular on social media, and the hype is well-deserved. "Milk and Honey" delves into the experiences of violence, abuse, love, loss and femininity. I suggest taking a sneak peek into author Rupi Kaur's Instagram to get a taste of her beautiful writing. I'm sure it will leave you craving some "Milk and Honey."

5. "Sharp Objects" by Gillian Flynn

This novel may get overshadowed by Flynn's more well-known "Gone Girl," but it's time that "Sharp Objects" gets the recognition it deserves. It's told from the view of reporter Camille Preaker, who after a stay at a psychiatric hospital, returns to her hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. She finds herself living in her childhood bedroom under the same roof as her estranged, neurotic mother and her eerily beautiful, thirteen-year-old half-sister. As she chases down the story of the two murders, she uncovers the painful truth about her own past. This suspenseful novel is twisted in all the right ways, and it'll keep you guessing until the very last page.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
