I love reading books...just not books that are assigned: not textbooks about research, not articles about the effects of media on social behaviors. I just want to have time to read, and read for fun! Here are all of the books that are sitting on my shelf right next to my bed that are begging my eyes to peer into their pages... but alas, there is no time for them.
1. "The Hidden Life Of Trees" by Peter Wohlleben
I've already started reading this book and so far I think it's the coolest thing ever written. It's about the way that trees can communicate with each other and how they defend themselves from predators. Did you know that trees can smell and even taste?! Read this book to learn more about it.
2. "Lab Girl" by Hope Jahren
I'm a sucker for a good memoir (best memoir I've ever read was by Terry Tempest Williams, when women were birds... just saying). I don't know what it is about me and environmental science right now! Maybe it's that I don't know much about trees and plants and the secret lives that they lead (and they do lead secret lives). It's like a burst of magic that you can witness everyday!
3. "The Hour of Land" by Terry Tempest Williams (my favorite author of all time)
This book I might hold off on because it is soooo long and its size is kind of intimidating. BUT I want to read it because TTW's books are written so well and are real page turners!
4. "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry" by Neil deGrasse Tyson
I want to read this book mostly because I don't know anything about astrophysics, and I do consider myself a person in a hurry!
5. "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood
To top off the list, I have a little break from my science-minded books with this feminist book. I saw the trailer for the show that is coming out on Hulu and it looked awesome, but I don't have Hulu, so I'm going to the original. I think I might save this one for later just because it seems freaky.
