Seven Of The Best Books To Cuddle Up With This Christmas Break

Finally, we have gotten a break from the heat here in East Carolina, and if you are anything like me, you are craving a cozy day in with some cocoa and easy entertainment. Once finals are over, I know I will want to set up a hot date with a good book. Here are some of my favorites, and some that I plan on reading for the first time!

1. The Scarlet Letter

I read this book in high school and it is definitely my favorite book. This classic is so beautifully written with such an incredible story.

2. The 5th Wave

Wow. I read this book back when the movie was about to come out, and like always, the book was way better than the movie. So, even if you have seen the movie, I definitely recommend the book!

3. The Matched Series

I ready these books in high school, and I was so entertained by the story that I could not put it down. I would love it if they created this into a movie.

4. The Virginian

I have not heard of this book since reading it in high school, but it is absolutely one of the best love stories ever told. I remember gushing about the romance with my best friends during class.

5. Between Shades of Gray

Note: Not the same thing as 50 Shades of Grey. My roommate actually recommended this book since it is her favorite, so I plan on cracking it open during this Christmas break.

6. The Hiding PlaceĀ

My mom and I read this book together a while ago and, it being a true story, I was hooked.

7. To Kill A MockingbirdĀ

What a classic! You have probably heard of, if not read, this book before, but I think it is a must-read for everyone.

I know that as soon as I finish my last final and drive home, I will be rushing to grab one of these reads with a cup of tea or cocoa. Now, let's all just finish the semester strong so that we can actually enjoy our breaks. Good luck!

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a ā€œreal person,ā€ I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minuteā€¦

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. Youā€™ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, thereā€™s no chance you wonā€™t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
