Book one: Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

Book one of a trilogy, Inkheart is a great read. If you are a fan of books being made into a movie, then this one is for you! Brandon Frazier even plays the lead role. The storyline is absolutely captivating: a man afraid of his gift while having the very same power to bring his family back together, with some interesting characters that jump right out of fairytales along the way. Combined with the power of storytelling and magic, this novel is bound to capture and keep your attention.

Book two: Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan

A tale of sacrifice due to unfortunate events. Esperanza learns about hard work and faces the harsh reality of her people as they do what they can in a foreign country. Missing her grandma who is on the other side of the border, Esperanza eventually overcomes her biases and appreciates what she's had all along as she works to provide for the ones she loves. A good choice for those who love historical fiction, as the history of farmworker strikes and the Mexican Repatriation initiative is tied into the plot.

Book three: The Wizenard Series: Training Camp by Kobe Bryant and Wesley King

If you're a fan of basketball and magic, this is the series for you. This book covers 5 boys on a basketball team as they strive for greatness and a ticket to a better life. Told from 5 different perspectives, this fiction novel covers a new mysterious coach and his magical abilities to improve the team while addressing each character and their internal struggles. The Wizenard Series shows that personal growth and transformation is possible with the right people and the right attitude.
