When the Netflix marathon start to get boring, or if you need something to read by the pool.

1. "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins

This book (soon-to-be movie) offers a mystery with multiple twists and thrilling moments. A woman dealing with a past break up and alcohol addiction takes the same train into the city every day for work. Dealing with some of the same people, same public transport and same sites to see. She becomes invested with the family living in a house she passes every day but inevitably puts herself in the center of their drama and as a suspect in a recent murder. I was unable to put this down and would accidentally spend hours reading it without realizing. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to cozy up by the pool or on the beach and get lost in this mysterious thriller.

2. "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell

Everybody loves a cheesy young adult romance novel but this one had a special spark. The author did a fabulous job with creating and developing the main characters causing you to feel their emotions throughout the novel. Connecting through music and the feeling of being an outcast, "Eleanor & Park" created a love story that every reader will fall for. I especially recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy read that will still tug at your heart strings. Car rides, beach trips, anywhere is a perfect place for reading this love story.

3. "Panic" by Lauren Oliver

Creating a "Hunger Games" vibe, this book is one I feel deserves way more recognition than received. This book centers around a high school that has created a series of deadly games for the seniors to accomplish in pursuit of winning a large sum of money. This book will throw betrayals, unexpected twists and intense biting your nails moments. I strongly recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for a read that will keep you at the edge of your seat and continuously wanting more.

4. "Everyday" by David Levithan

Being honest, I went into this novel not expecting a whole lot due to the fact I had not heard of any reviews or met anyone else who had read it. Usually, I am one to read books based on suggestions from friends or the various BuzzFeed articles. This is about a young soul who jumps around from person to person each day simply taking over their life for those 24 hours. Their main goal is to not mess or alter that person’s life in any way. Although, this does not always work out when he/she runs into obstacles along the way and falls in love. This book exceeded all limits making its way to one of my favorite books and I strongly encourage every young adult to read it.

5. "Before I Fall" by Lauren Oliver

The author centers this book around a young girl who goes out one evening and it turns out to be her last. She then wakes up again on the day she had just died and has an opportunity to change it. Oliver keeps you anxious to find out whether or not she is able to change her fate of death. I had never considered this concept for a book and it left me blown away at the story line. It also lies a deeper meaning and helps you to value what you have and not take for granted each day you’re given.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
