In This Article:

Everyone always has their handful of suggested reads. Some that will make you cry, some to make you laugh, others that lead you to question some of the choices your making, and the most important ones remind you of your self-worth.

There are blogs that share the best reads to strengthen your faith, your relationships, and your guide you towards successful and achievable goals.

I have found a few reads, both in sight of guidance and a few non-fiction stories to add a little light to a rainy day. I found myself buying more books than I could shake a stick at, and really what's wrong with that? Absolutely nothing. However, I've reached a point where I want the books I'm reading to be helpful and show me healthy lifestyles and ways to overcome obstacles. The books that came to mind earlier when I mentioned being filled with a sea of emotions.

Well, I have some amazing friends and references that have pointed me in a wonderful direction to make sure I keep filling my bookshelves with reading to make my mind work and set my goals higher. Hopefully, you find that one, a handful, or even all of these find it on your bookshelf this year of 2019.

Even more convenient is the titles are all linked to Amazon for easy purchase!

1. "Too Big To Fail" - Andrew Ross Sorkin

This book was suggested to me by a professor at K-State in the College of Business.

If you are a business student as well or have interest in learning what happened in the 2008 financial crisis and collapse of Lehman Brothers in the POV of CEOs on Wall Street Government regulators for the US. It dives into how Washington fought to save the Financial System in the time of crisis.

2. "Loving Your Husband Before You Even Have One" - Kim Vollendorf

This book is traveling all through college campuses and through churches. Young women, single and in relationships are looking in and finding what is most important in relationships. Kim decided to share what her life taught her after going through a breakup and how her relationship with God would help her prepare for future relationships and eventually marriage.

3. "Passion and Purity" - Elisabeth Elliot

This one relates well to Vollendorf's writing. Although her religious beliefs may not line up directly with yours, she still has a strong voice that can share a strong message reminding what is important in relationships and how to strengthen it with Faith.

4. "The Journey Of Desire" - John Eldredge

John Elderidge takes you on a roller coaster of what will lead you to the road less traveled. He reminds you what clouds your success and shows us that the life we truly desire is there through the negative influences and the obstacles thrown at us to swerve off path. Through a little reading, you'll remember exactly what you desire.

5. "Girl, Wash Your Face" - Rachel Hollis

This book helps women find their way in a masculine world. This book SCREAMS how to build self-confidence and how to break through lies told about them in the professional world. If you need a pick-me-up and pep-talk to get you through your work environment or any conflicts you have in your life. Definitely a book to pick up.

6. "The Hate U Give" - Angie Thomas

If you attend K-State, you saw this book title quite a bit.

This title may also seem familiar as it was also made into a movie. However, I am a strong contestant to reading the book before seeing a movie.

This book tears apart the opinions of law enforcement in certain neighborhoods and what has developed from events throughout the country. This book is important to see what can happen when certain opinions and words are, or aren't, said after events and how every individual plays a part in the future and where we go from here.

7. "The Beautiful And The Broken" - Illiana Cenjur

The book's inside cover says it all: "For every weary soul who has ever felt like life couldn't possibly get any worse, this book is for you." There can be moments in life when the roadblocks seem to be every few feet. In those times of despair, turn to this book for that push of encouragement.

8. "Milk And Vine" - Adam Gasiewski and Emily Beck

As many young females know the book "Milk and Honey"... now comes "Milk and Vine." The ultimate book of inspirational comedy from the well-known video app, Vine. Sometimes we need that laugh and reminder of simple things to get us through those extra challenging Mondays.

9. "The Road Between" - Courtney Peppernell

A book of complex poetic moments of losing yourself in the world and finding yourself at the same time. Sometimes the smallest ones are the most impactful ones.

10. "Love Letters Of Great Men" - John C. Kirkland

If you're a fan of "Sex and The City," you may have heard of this one, as it was originally created a prop for the series.

However, if you're like me, you have not seen the series but still fall for what seems to be a lost past-time. Reading what their idea of what the spark of love feels like just draws you into the helpless romantic you are while sipping your glass(es) of wine and cuddling with your cozy blanket that partners with the reading to warm your heart.

11. "Pillow Thoughts I & II" - Courtney Peppernell

This envelops what every female dreams of when the sun sets and the feelings start peeking out. When you let your mind and heart take a walk and allow to open up that little thing called emotions.

This collection pairs together for comforting poems meant to sew together that broken heart of yours.

12. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck - Mark Manson

This book is a little more blunt than others. It doesn't sugarcoat anything or spare any feelings. It shows what it means to really fight your way through life. At times, it may feel like you have to put some tough skin and wear your big kid pants but hey, that's life in general, isn't it? This book throws realizations your way and will definitely teach you the lifestyle of those who weren't exactly goodie-two-shoes and how they still found their way to success.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone does not try to help their self before asking others. How can someone else be expected to help you if you do not first do that yourself? I'm all about helping those that need it when the time comes, however whenever someone does not even attempt to help him or herself first then that becomes a huge problem. As we all have learned, people tend to take advantage of us in one way or another. I am sure we all read this short story when we were younger and it follows that same principle:
