You have about twenty-five days left until you return to the hell that is “schoolwork.” You’ve probably forgotten what it’s like to be stressed out every second of your life and sitting in the library until three am, but don’t worry, you’ll remember soon.
You should probably remind yourself how to read though, so maybe pick up one of these books to get back in that mindset.
1. "The Pact"
If you like those stories that make you ball your eyes out at every page, this is the book for you. A story about two families who are as close as two families can be, torn apart by the mysterious death of the girl in the presence of the boy who loved her. Read only if you find crying cathartic.
2. "Marriage Plot"
This is a great story for those of us terrified of what will happen after graduation. Three college students graduate from Brown, and their lives in the year after graduation take different turns and twists that you won’t expect.
3. "When Breath Becomes Air"
A memoir of a neurosurgeon diagnosed with lung cancer, it's another story that's probably going to make you cry.
4. "Aquamarine"
Carol Anshaw does a brilliant job of telling three different versions of a woman’s life after she finishes second in the 1968 Olympics for swimming. Three different paths her life could have taken: if she stayed in her home town, if she followed her inner homosexuality, or if she had children very early. It's much different than anything you've read before.
5. "A Girl With No Past"
If you liked Gone Girl, you're probably into those psychological murder mystery type stories, so here you go.
6. "A Song Of Ice and Fire"
You should read the "Game of Thrones" books. Even if you don't watch the show. You should just do it. Go do that now.
7. "A Thousand Splendid Suns"
Here's another one that might make you cry (sorry), but you shouldn't let it deter you. This book takes two women in Afghanistan and details their lives and their friendship. If you read "The Kite Runner" in 10th grade and absolutely loved it, this book is also written by Khaled Hosseini, and is just as beautiful.
8. "The Rosie Project"
A completely socially inept genetic professor does his best to fulfill "The Wife Project" - finding the perfect companion. Unfortunately, he can only find Rosie. A cute love story if you're into that kind of thing.
9. "The Glass Castle"
Another memoir here, this time about a woman's childhood with neglectful parents, one of whom was an alcoholic, who made their children's lives as hard as it could be, and yet loved them all the same. It's captivating and sad, but we know the author made out okay since she probably made a decent amount of money from the book.
10. "Harry Potter: A Cursed Child"
Because either you are painfully excited for this book, or you’re wrong.
