Throughout the last couple of months, I've been reading a lot more, and I've also become very picky with what I read. I don't want a cliche that makes me feel lonely and more single than I already am, and I've also grown out of my Sci-Fi phase that I'm sure everyone went through in middle school when we all read the Hunger Games series and the Divergent series in less than a couple of weeks. I had also realized that a lot of the books that I wanted to read had been turned into movies that I had already seen, and I don't like to watch movies before reading the book.
A couple of my friends had recommended this particular book. At the first look, I didn't even want to pick it up. The title itself just makes it seem like the most cliche thing in the whole world. Love Story. Why would it even seem appealing in the first place? After much thought, and being stuck in a car for a couple of hours to go back to campus, I decided to give it a go.
I was completely wrong. This one hundred-page book may easily be one of the best books I have ever read. Yes, it is a love story with all the sappy lovey-dovey stuff, but it's also so much more.
There's no way of giving any kind of summary of the book without giving spoilers because the first page of the book pretty much tells you how it ends.
What I can tell you, is that it is not your typical love story. It reads much differently, making the reader become emotionally attached to the characters and every single detail about them.
Segal can allow his readers to feel exactly what the narrator, who is the male main character in the novel. We are given a different viewpoint of a love story. One that is usually written by the female and how she falls in love with someone, we are given a Harvard jock, who thinks he has the world in his hand and then continues to fall to his knees for his soulmate.
Now, this might be the deal-breaker but never have I cried so much about a book in my life. The amount of emotions you feel is unbearable. Happiness, love, sadness, guilt, all of your emotions are all over the place just for you to become a crying mess at the end of it.
Read at your own risk.
