Book Or E Reader?

Which is your addiction?

Book Or E Reader?
Greg Denning

As a book lover, I am constantly reading something or have a book with me whenever I leave the house. I have a massive collection of books that I keep adding to when I know that I do not need too. Some days, the struggle to not buy a book is very hard to control, I even get excited about buying textbooks when the semester starts.

I also have the nifty little thing called a Kindle and I was asked recently whether I prefer an actual book or my e reader. I, of course, said an actual book is better. There is just something about holding a book in your hands that is much more comforting than having a slim piece of plastic in your hands.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes it is nice having an e reader. I have an app on my phone that goes with me everywhere so I am never bored. I always have something to read with me in case I forget the actual book that day. This is honestly the only good thing I could think of for having an e reader is being able to take a book with you everywhere you go.

Honestly, nothing beats having a physical book with you. The weight of the book in your hand and the smell of it, even the simply act of turning the pages is soothing. Recently, my other half's mother got me a book from a rare bookstore and this book was roughly from the 1950's. I picked it up and I turned to him and said, "smell it-- this is heaven", and he just looked at me strangely.

Reading from an actual book is the easiest thing to do also, because reading from an e reader can sometimes strain your eyes. It strains mine constantly and I have to watch how long I read on my e reader.

I am an English major so I buy novels for some of my classes and recently I have been getting them on my e reader because either they are free or they are just much cheaper than buying the actual book. I know most college students can agree with me when you already forking out a huge amount for tuition and then have to turn around and buy $200-300 worth of books for classes sometimes, you try to get them for free if you can.

The other upside to having an e reader is thatyou don't have to worry about space for your books. Most e readers can hold thousands of books at one time. I run out of room constantly with my physical books because I have book cases full or just have them sitting on the floor of my bedroom because I have nowhere else to put them.

Whether you are like me and prefer a physical book, or if you would rather have an e reader, it doesn't matter as long as you keep on reading.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
